Choi Dong Hoon met with the press on July 16 in Sinsa to talk about the shoots for The Thieves.

When a member asked him whether he didn’t consider including a bed scene starring Anycall (Jun Ji Hyun), the director answered, “More than that, I missed the chance to include a kiss between Jun Ji Hyun and Kim Hye Soo.”

Jun Ji Hyun and Kim Hye Soo took on the roles of the thieves Anycall and Pepsi, and continue to fight a war of nerves in the film. When Pepsi says to Ye Nicole, “You’re cute,” Ye Nicole shoots back, “I get along well with women older than me.”

These sarcastic quarrels act as an important factor in making the beginning of The Thieves tense and entertaining.

Choi Dong Hoon said, “There’s a scene where Kim Hye Soo beats out Jun Ji Hyun in a quarrel. After shooting that scene, I immediately regretted not including a kiss scene between them. I really should’ve done so for the impact…. I reproached myself for being a director that lacks such skills.”

He added, “Jun Ji Hyun’s ‘I’m not ruffled’ line, which she mutters after her kiss with Kim Soo Hyun, would’ve fit better in that scene too.”

“I was scared Kim Hye Soo and Jun Ji Hyun would really start fighting a war of nerves for real, but actually they got along well as if they were just playing along,” he finished. “It was strange to see nothing like that happen.”

The Thieves is a film about how 10 thieves from Korea and China get together to steal a diamond hidden in Macao. The film will premiere on July 25.
