Who Ruled the Korean Wave Dream Concert?
In the midst of a Korean wave washing through the world, the hallyu kings and queens set Gyeongju on fire during the Korean Wave Dream Concert 2011.
On October 6, Mnet’s Wide Entertainment News will be crowning the three kings (and queen) of hallyu, out of the 18 popular teams who performed at the October 3 Korean Wave Dream Concert 2011 in Gyeongju.
So who were the lucky three?
Girls’ Generation, TVXQ and GD&TOP took the crown, and all the goodies that come with it.
Girls’ Generation led the hallyu boom and is one of Korea’s representative girl groups. It was also the first girl group to hold three successful Arena Tour concerts in Taipei, Taiwan and brought in more than 140,000 fans for its six-city Japan tour concert, earning over 17.3 billion dollars in ticket sales.
Their fans didn’t hold back in showing their support for the group this time around, either. Girls’ Generation appeared at the Korean Wave Concert in a white Marine girl look, with their short pants showing off their perfect legs and pink balloons, which represent the group’s fan club, filled the concert hall.
And no one can forget its labelmate, TVXQ. One of the first K-Pop hallyu stars, the group ranked no. 1 on the Oricon Chart on September 28, the day of it studio album release in Japan. The album sold a record breaking 100,000 plus copies, and topped the Oricon Daily Album Chart that day.
The fan parties that the group is holding in several Asian countries, including the October 2 in China, also prove that there are many overseas fans who support TVXQ.
Many Chinese fans could be seen rooting for TVXQ at the Korean Wave Concert, armed with red balloons and loud voices. Many of the fans admitted that they’d come to Korea from China just to see the group perform in concert.
The full performances of the 18 teams can be seen on October 6, through Mnet, while Mnet’s Wide Entertainment News will also be covering the Korean Wave Dream Concert.
