[Interview] ‘Angel Eyes’ Nam Ji Hyun Makes a Jump From Being Child Actress
Angel Eyes is a turning point for Nam Ji Hyun, who is transitioning from being a child actress to an adult actress.
Acting out romance with ‘Park Dong Jun’ (Kang Ha Neul) in SBS’s Angel Eyes, Nam Ji Hyun is a freshman at Sogang University this year. Having built her career as a child actress, she is also well known to be a hard working student, who has even ranked number one in her school.
“I got used to acting and studying at the same time because I’ve done it since I was young. I worked with my mom without an agency, so most of filming took place during school vacation. I didn’t face many difficulties in going through school. I didn’t miss so many classes and if there was a meeting scheduled, I asked to attend after my classes. I didn’t always rank number one in my school either but I was embarrassed when the articles were written about it.” (laughter)
About choosing to study social science at Sogang University, Nam Ji Hyun said, “Psychology is included in the social science. I want to pursue psychology. When I analyze a character I get curious about why the character does certain things and how they might feel in certain situations. So I naturally got interested in psychology. I love acting but I also want to study and research more.”
Nam Ji Hyun has been building her career as a child actress by starring in various projects, including MBC’s Queen Seon Deok, SBS’s Will It Snow for Christmas?, movie Hwayi: A Monster Boy and more.
Having acted alongside Nam Ji Hyun in Will It Snow for Christmas?, Kim Soo Hyun commented, “She knows her character’s feelings so well, it’s almost scary.”
Turning 20-years-old this year, it is finally time for Nam Ji Hyun to move forward from being a child actress.
“I never thought that acting as a child and adult are different. As time goes by and as I age, I tend to choose the project that suits my age and something that I can do well. My role in Angel Eyes is also not exactly a child role. I want to take small steps forward.” (laughter)
