Kim Ji Suk′s Past Idol Days Revealed on ′Strong Heart′
The little known fact about actor Kim Ji Suk’s idol group past has become a hot topic.
An 11-year-old clip from 2001 - when he was active as a member of idol group Leo - captured the attention of viewers on the April 10 broadcast of SBS’ Strong Heart.
During the broadcast, MC Lee Dong Wook said to him, “I heard you started out as a singer.” Kim Ji Suk, taken aback by Lee Dong Wook’s unscripted disclosure, replied, “Why are you talking about something that wasn’t on the script?”
However, he went on and explained how he had gotten his start as a singer saying, “At that time g.o.d was enjoying a meteoric rise and the CEO of our agency wanted another group to contend with them. That was the reason behind the creation of the European dance group, Leo.”
“Just like g.o.d, [Leo] also had five members. Moreover, the group had the appropriate vocabulary and colors that were representative of idol groups back in those days. I was in charge of red, the color of passion,” Kim Ji Suk added.
When he revealed that he had been active as a Leo member for eight months, MC Shin Dong Yeop asked, “Shouldn’t people have known [about you] if you were active for that long?”
Kim Ji Suk replied, “If you were to search for ‘Leo’ on the internet, Leonardo DiCaprio is the first thing that pops up. The second is (comedian) Lee Mario, the third is Hario, and so on,” admitting to the humiliation.
He also acknowledged that he was in charge of the rap in Slow Down, Baby, the title song from Leo’s first album. The actor then, unable to rebuff a request from the other guests, showed off his rap talent, drawing applauses from the audience.
Meanwhile, the guest list for Shin Dong Yeop and Lee Dong Wook’s first broadcast as Strong Heart MC’s included Lee Jin Wook, Jung So Min, Kim Ji Suk, Jang Nara and Hyolyn.
