Yoona of ‘Love Rain’ Channels Song Hye Gyo of ‘Autumn in My Heart’
Song Hye Gyo, her yellow umbrella, Song Seung Hun and a raft. These things will probably come to your mind if you’re asked to pick out your one favorite scene from the KBS2 drama Autumn in My Heart.
The Abai Village in Sokcho, where the scene was filmed, even became a popular tourist attraction after the drama aired. The image of Song Hye Gyo standing under her yellow umbrella left that big an impression in the minds of her viewers, and the drama’s producer Yoon Suk Ho was crowned the master of video art.
Twelve years later, Song Hye Gyo’s yellow umbrella reappeared in Yoona’s hands in the new KBS2 drama Love Rain, which was finally unveiled on March 26.
The first episode aired that day was all about the fateful and exciting first encounter between Seo In Ha (Jang Keun Suk) and Kim Yoon Hee (Yoona).
In Ha runs into Yoon Hee in front of the library, but he doesn’t know what to do when it starts pouring outside. He digs out a broken umbrella, and shows he’s a gentleman by tilting the umbrella toward Yoon Hee the entire time they’re walking together.
In Ha then hands the umbrella to Yoon Hee, and the two fix a time for a date, using the umbrella as an excuse. The umbrella acts as a medium that connects In Ha and Yoon Hee, and this rainy umbrella scene provided a preview of the fateful love that would surround the two.
The scene was reminiscent of Autumn in My Heart, which the same producer Yoon Suk Ho had produced 12 years ago. In Autumn in My Heart, the scene that showed Eun Seo (Song Hye Gyo) and Joon Seo (Song Seung Hun) cross paths on a raft started off their sad relationship. It was greatly praised for its beautiful delivery at the time, somehow merging Eun Seo and her yellow umbrella with the raft.
Love Rain also didn’t let anyone down in that aspect. Its picturesque 1970s revivals and lively colors stood out.
Love Rain is a piece by a team which was brought together again for the first time in 10 years: producer Yoon Suk Ho, the man behind the four seasons melodrama series, which includes Autumn in My Heart and Winter Sonata, and the scriptwriter Oh Soo Hyun.
