[Interview] Junho to Work with Kim So Eun in ‘Music and Lyrics’
2PM’s Junho, the second male guest for MBC Music’s reality show Music and Lyrics, revealed that he was “nervous thinking of working with an actress.”
In an interview held for the show on March 16 in Seoul, Junho said, “I can’t get used to the fact that I’m working not with the 2PM members, but with another person. I also feel awkward without the members.”
About how he felt about being a latecomer to solo activities compared to his other members such as Taecyeon, Junsu or Nichkhun, he said with a laugh, “I came out later because I’m the hidden card,” but then added, “Actually, I’m not that confident, but I’ll try to show who I am more naturally.”
Music and Lyrics is a reality show that brings together a male composer and a female lyricist to produce a song together. The first broadcast featured Yoon Gun and Park Shin Hye and their romantic love song. Next in line is Junho, with his partner, actress Kim So Eun.
Junho said about his appearance in the program as a composer, “I usually work with singers for collaborations, but I decided to appear on the show because I thought I would get to show a new side of myself if I worked with an actor. The 2PM members are all interested in composing. Producer Park Jin Young is great, but everyone is trying to learn because we believe we need our own colors, too.”
He said about Yoon Gun, “I’m feeling pressure because Yoon Gun was so good. Yoon Gun jammed on the piano on set, but I can’t do anything like that. I’m not mainly a composer, and because I have to think of the song’s performance, it takes a long time for me to compose.”
“I saw Yoon Gun drink makgeolli with Park Shin Hye. I wanted to do that, but he did it first,” he added. “I don’t know what events I’ll take Kim So Eun on, but I’ll show everything even if it’s awkward or falls short to fit my age.”
Junho described the song the two would be working on together, saying, “I think most of you will be thinking about a sweet song like Way Back Into Love, which appeared in the film Music and Lyrics. I will, however, be approaching it from a completely different angle. I’ll try anything, even dance.”
Junho made it into the show as a composer because he has previous experience in composition. He once rose to the top of a chart in Recochoku, a Japanese digital music site, with his self-composed piece Move On, a duet with fellow member Wooyoung. The single was even performed on the stage of the group’s Hands Up Asia Tour.
“I composed Move On to put together a special performance for the concert, and I’m thankful that it’s been received so well. I’ll work harder,” Junho said.
The Junho and Kim So Eun duet episodes will start airing as soon as the Yoon Gun and Park Shin Hye episodes wrap up. Music and Lyrics was first produced exclusively for MBC Music, but reactions were so favorable that it started airing in the main MBC channel from March 18 and recorded 5 percent viewership ratings, fairly moderate numbers for a late night broadcast. The program was the first to make it into a main channel after starting up on cable.
