Kim Soo Hyun Says He was On a Hard Core Diet for Two Months for ′Be Covert, Be Great′
Kim Soo Hyun opened up on the trouble he had to go through for his fit body and exciting action scenes.
The press preview and roundtable for Be Covert, Be Great was held on May 27. Director Jang Chul Soo was present, along with actors Kim Soo Hyun, Son Hyun Joo, Park Ki Woong and Lee Hyun Woo.
When asked how he made his body so fit, Kim Soo Hyun answered, "I aimed not to make a big body, but rather to make a body that looks solid on the inside. I didn′t want to become bigger; I wanted to show something with [the splitting muscles]."
Kim Soo Hyun appears in the film as an elite spy who is sent to South Korea. Though he is known as a dumb boy in the South Korean village he lives in, he is actually a muscular spy who keeps his identity hidden.
"I spent two months eating only vegetables and proteins," he said. "That helps with the splitting [muscles]."
To a question asking whether the action scenes were hard to act in, he answered, "I practiced at an action school. At first there was physical pain, but after a while I found putting together a routine is actually really fun. I′m sad I couldn′t have done better for certain scenes, but all in all it was fun."
He finished, "All the actors and staff sweat hard for this piece. I hope it lives up to our audience′s expectations."
Be Covert, Be Great will premiere in June.
