ZE:A′s Im Si Wan Reveals He Only Had 10 Hours of Acting Lessons
Im Si Wan, who was shot to fame with the role of Heo Yeom in MBC’s The Sun and The Moon, surprised his fans by revealing that he didn′t have acting experience in the past, and took only 10 hours of acting lessons.
Im recently sat with enews and shared his thoughts on positive feedbacks he received on his acting debut, “I was able to act more confidently because I didn’t have any preconceptions on acting and I haven’t learned how to act.” He confided, “I had 10 hours of acting lessons before I began shooting the drama, and the skills that I learned as shortcuts were so helpful.”
He revealed the three quick methods that he learned, which include so-called ‘three-steps to expressing emotion′, ‘being conscious of viewers,’ and ‘repetition of action.’
The ‘three-steps to expressing emotion’ is to show your response to a situation in a gradual way, bearing the gradual change of emotion in mind. For example, if somebody blocks you, you have to develop your thoughts step by step, “Oh, somebody blocked me?” “Who is this person?” “Why is he blocking me?” and “Ah, that’s why he blocked me.”
The ‘being conscious of viewers’ is to act, bearing viewers in mind as well as the other actor. He said, “You have to be aware of the viewers’ eyes. It′s important to keep both the viewers and the other actors in mind."
The ‘repetition of action’ means repeating the details of all actions you performed. He said, “You have to remember all the details of your action. If you pick up a spoon, for example, you have to remember the number, order, and angle of the action and repeat them in the same way. This is such an important skill that I learned.”
He added, “Of course, the advice that the director gave me during the shooting of the drama was the most helpful to me.”
Meanwhile, the child actors of The Sun and The Moon including Im Si Wan dropped out of the drama with the end of its sixth episode aired on January 19. Kim Soo Hyun, Jung Il Woo, Han Ga In, and Song Jae Hee took over their roles from Yeo Jin Gu, Lee Min Ho, Kim Yoo Jung, and Im Si Wan, respectively.
