Super Junior Wins Another Grand Prize at the Seoul Music Awards
It’s turning out to be a good year for Super Junior, because the group once again won the highest honor at the Seoul Music Awards.
The 21st High 1 Seoul Music Awards, held on January 19 in Seoul, featured many splendid and colorful performances with hosts Tak Jae Hoon, Shin Hyeon Jun and miss A’s Suzy.
A full cast of K-Pop stars who shone brightly this year made appearances, and 12 of those teams won Bonsangs. Out of those 12 teams, Super Junior won the Grand Prize, having the winning baton handed to them by Girls’ Generation (SNSD), also from SM Entertainment, and breaking the girls’ two year winning streak.
As soon as the winner was announced, the Super Junior members embraced each other and shed tears, while Leeteuk held the trophy up in triumph and thanked his fans.
Leeteuk said, “We wanted to be in the spotlight and bloom like every other celebrity. But now, I hope that like weeds, we can always get up again even though we may fall. I thank the world’s best fanclub E.L.F. (Super Junior’s fanclub). I also want to say I love you to the four members who aren’t here but will be watching on TV.”
Siwon added, “Thank you. A lot of people come to mind, but I want to thank my two grandmothers, who would’ve been happy to watch this scene together. I dedicate this honor to God,” expressing his sadness at having lost his grandmother a few days before the awards.
The Seoul Music Awards, which was hosted by Sports Seoul and was sponsored by High 1 Resort, the Visit Korea Committee and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, chose its winners out of those singers who had released albums in 2011, combining 20 percent mobile ARS votes, 10 percent Sports Seoul’s popularity poll, 40 percent digital downloads and album sales, and 30 percent judge scores.
