[Readers Appreciation Month] Top Seven Most Searched Keywords
In celebration of our one year anniversary, we’re taking a look back at the seven most searched keywords of the past year that lead you to enewsWorld.
Check out the full list-up for yourself!
Surprise, surprise! As the hallyu wave continues to hit the rest of the world, ‘K-Pop’ was one of the hottest keywords searched by you.
2011 and 2012 were both great years for K-Pop, as idol groups continued to gather fans not only in Asia, but all throughout Europe and America as well.
From global tours and fan signing events, no one could get enough of K-Pop this past year and Psy’s Gangnam Style has shown the entire world the full potential of Korean pop music.
2. Super Junior
Since its debut, Super Junior has continued to take the world by storm. Don’t believe us? Here are just a few things the group has achieved in the last few months alone:
1. Super Junior reigned the Korean music scene by taking the triple crown on Mnet’s M Countdown with Sexy, Free & Single
2. The group placed first on the Oricon Singles Chart
3. Super Junior’s sixth album, Sexy, Free & Single blew away all competition and became the top selling album for both July and August
Do we need any more reasons to let you know how amazing these boys are?
Though it’s been 14 years since Shinhwa’s debut, the group is showing no signs of slowing down.
The boys not only have their own show, but Kim Dong Wan finally got the spotlight as a successful actor in his role for the film Deranged. Kim Dong Wan will also be returning to the small screen with a lead role in KBS’ upcoming drama, Cheer Up, Mr Kim.
Lee Min Woo also proved he’s still got it, as he served as a special judge for Shanghai TV’s Asian Wave.
At this rate, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Shinhwa still on top fourteen years from now.
4. M Countdown
Mnet’s M Countdown is quickly becoming a global music program and it is currently being streamed live all over the world every week on Global Mnet.
Since it aired in July 2004, M Countdown is currently the only program on TV which is a chart-based music show.
South Korea’s top K-Pop stars, including BoA, Girls’ Generation (SNSD), and Big Bang have all performed on the show.
The music program will be taking it up a notch with its M Countdown Smile Thailand Tour in October and the lineup currently includes Kara, Infinite, Super Junior, and SISTAR. The full list of performers will be revealed mid-September so make sure to check in with us.
5. Lee Seung Gi
If there’s one celebrity who knows how to bring in the big bucks, it’s got to be Lee Seung Gi. He’s currently modeling for refrigerators, electronics, pizzas and just about everything in between.
After successfully wrapping up his drama The King 2Hearts, Lee Seung Gi even ran in the torch relay for the 2012 London Olympics.
No wonder he landed on our top seven keywords list!
6. Girls’ Generation (SNSD)
If the boys of Super Junior dominated the world this past year, the ladies of SNSD were right on their heels.
The girls have been continually headlining the news not only in Korea, but in North America. Their appearance on Tonight Show with David Letterman was just as the beginning of the U.S. activities, as they brought the boys out on Live! with Kelly and even scored an interview with the Associated Press.
SNSD also took Europe by storm with its appearance on Le Grand Journal, making it the first time a Korean artist appeared on the talk show.
Let’s see if the girls will continue to bring the boys out next year.
7. Reply 1997
We knew we weren’t the only ones obsessed with tvN’s hit drama, Reply 1997!
Though Reply 1997 didn’t have an A-list cast, the characters and plot perfectly came together, making the drama an instant hit with viewers.
The drama was also the perfect opportunity for Seo In Guk and A Pink’s Jung Eun Ji to show off their acting chops.
We love our current K-Pop idol stars to death, but looking at H.O.T and Sechs Kies perform during their heyday had us reminiscing about the good times (and by the good times we mean when we were young and youthful).
With only one more episode left, we’re already starting to prepare ourselves for the dramatic ending.
