We’re back with this week’s installment of Weekly Roundup!
In this week, Psy broke more barriers by signing with Universal Republic, while his YG label mate, the lovely ladies of 2NE1 made history by becoming the first girl group to rank on one of Billboard’s prestigious charts.
Things were less rosy for Lee Min Ho and his drama, which was accused of signing a double contract for the show’s OST, while Big Bang member T.O.P’s upcoming movie hit some major bumps that threatened to derail production.
Read on for all the details below!
Stars on the Rise
1. Psy Signs With Universal Republic, Attends the MTV VMAs and More
We know some of you may be getting ‘Psy-ed out,’ but this man is continuing to make history.
While Gangnam Style’s music video continues to rack up the views, breaking the 100 million mark on YouTube, Psy kept busy signing record deals with Scooter Braun and Universal Republic, attending and performing at the MTV VMAs, all while partying with the likes of The Wanted, John Mayer and more.
And when your video is revealed to be the fifth most viral video of all time to top it off, it doesn’t look like Psy will be giving up the spotlight anytime soon.
2. Seo In Guk-Jung Eun Ji of ‘Reply 1997’ Become the New ‘It’ Couple
Move over Kim Ha Neul and Jang Dong Gun cuz there’s a new ‘it’ couple in town.
Few could have expected Seo In Guk and co-star Jung Eun Ji of A Pink to become the beloved couple it is now, but the two have recently become the new drama ‘it’ couple in high demand for shows and interviews, while their duets have been all-kills, topping the Billboard charts.
And with the two acting all lovey-doveyeven off screen and making sweet music together it’s no wonder so many are rooting for the two to become a real-life item.
3. 2NE1 Becomes 1st Girl Group to Rank on Billboard’s Concert Sales Box Score
Still kicking butt and taking names on their global concert tour, the ladies of 2NE1 are now on the Japan leg of their tour.
But the group’s concert last month in LA at the NOKIA Theatre on August 24 helped enter them into the history books as the first Korean girl group to rank in Billboard’s concert sales box score.
The feat also makes them only the third Korean act to enter the chart’s history after Im Jae Bum and the SM Town Concert.
Stars Falling Flat
1. ‘Faith’ Director Accused of Signing Double Contract and Accommodating Lee Min Ho
Although SBS’ Faith has been slowly making a climb in its ratings, the show became embroiled in a controversy when a group came forward and announced it was preparing legal action against the show’s director and his company over the show’s OST.
According to M Star Media Group, director Kim Jong Hak and his company, Kim Jong Hak and Company, allegedly signed two different contracts –one with M Star Media Group and another with Lee Min Ho’s agency, Star Haus. By failing to use M Star Media Group’s already produced OSTs and failing to return the contract money, M Star Media Group is insisting it has no choice left but to pursue legal action.
2. Big Bang T.O.P’s Current Movie Suspends Shooting
The Alumni, the latest movie featuring Big Bang’s T.O.P, hit a major snag in its production this week with the abrupt departure of the movie’s director.
Differences in opinion over the movie’s direction between former director Park Shin Woo and the movie’s production company was pointed out as the reason for the director’s departure but the move has already caused a suspension in the movie’s production as it looks for a replacement, generating negative buzz for the movie.
3. ‘Running Man’ Faces a Growing Issue With Imposters
Aimed squarely at providing delight and entertainment to viewers on a weekly basis, SBS’ Running Man was left with a slightly bitter taste in its mouth after encountering a series of imposters trying to trick the public into thinking they would be a part of the show.
The issue grew to the point that some of Running Man’s cast members, including Haha and Lee Kwang Soo, even took to their SNS to warn against the imposters and their actions.
