Who Took Home a Prize at the Style Icon Awards?
Actor Cha Seung Won was not only presented with the first Style Icon Award at this year’s ceremony, he won big later in the night, taking home the Style Icon of the Year Award.
Cha said, “The first people that came to mind after I received my award was my family.”
“Many will believe the same, but my family is precious to me. When I choose pieces, I will make choices so that my family won’t be harmed because of me,” he added.
Cha also said about his ‘own style as an actor’, “I have something I always think about when I act or work. I try to become a person and actor who is aggressive yet unflawed, and is also defensive yet not passive.”
“My final goal is to become a good husband and a good father. I hope I can give [my family] happiness.”
The former model turned charismatic actor has been a favorite on numerous best-dressed lists over the years and for good reason. This year, in true style icon fashion, the actor put his own twist on the classic three-piece suit, opting for a matching embossed black jacket and vest over understated black slacks.
Before singer IU accepted the second Style Icon Award of the night, presenter Park Hwi Soon emerged from a chorus of adoring IU fans (all men, big surprise there), who sang a short medley of her hit songs Marshmallow and Good Day. She later treated the audience to a special Winter Wonderland performance of Good Day.
Stylist and friend to the stars Jung Yoon Gi thanked fellow 2011 SIA attendants Cha Seung Won, Go Soo and Seo In Young in his acceptance speech for the Style Specialist Award.
Actor Go Soo was awarded the third Style Icon Award. He appropriately returned the favor to his stylist friend and fellow winner Jung Yoon Gi by thanking the stylist in his acceptance speech.
The SIA Discovery Award, a special award which recognizes the stars who show new sides to themselves, went to actors Park Si Hoo and Jo Yeo Jeong. A visibly nervous Park drew laughs when he said, “I drank a little champagne to get better adjusted to this. I’m a little red, no?” while Jo promised to continue “to make new discoveries as an actress.” The actress, who begins filming for erotic film Royal Concubine on November 3, is well on her way to accomplishing just that.
Gong Hyung Jin and Lee Young Ja of tvN’s Taxi presented the night’s New Icon Award, Actor and Actress, to Kim Soo Hyun and Shin Se Kyung, respectively. This award is particularly significant because the recipients can only receive it once in their lifetime.
Special award SIA Content of the Year recognized hit film Sunny for reviving all things retro. Actress Lee Seung Yeon, who looked laid back in a camel tone leather jacket and gray maxi skirt, presented the award to the film’s cast members.
Actor Ji Sung beat out fellow nominees Lee Dong Wook, Kim Jae Joong and Park Yoo Chun to take home the Actor Style Icon Award. The actor, who received a lot of love from fans this year through drama Protect the Boss, looked casual cool accepting his award in a long gray coat and slick combat boots.
The 2011 Style Icon Award, Singer was the cherry on top for winner Park Jung Hyun, who has had an amazing year through her successful run on MBC’s I Am A Singer, proving that an icon is defined by talent and longevity. Park also performed Cho Yong Pil’s I Wish It Were Like That Now at the show this year.
Actor Yoo Ah In also received a Style Icon Award this year. The actor appeared comfortable accepting the award, even engaging with the audience members. When asked what the secret is to his style in the press room, the actor answered, “wearing what I want and not being dressed by someone.”
Hyun Young presented actor Lee Jong Seok with the SIA’s Choice Award. It’s safe to say the High Kick: The Short Legs Strike Back actor has had a successful year and graciously accepted the award.
Jung Jae Hyung, who has proved to be a rising star on variety programs, was also presented the Style Icon Award at the ceremony this year. Jung accepted the award saying, “I think I received an award I was definitely supposed to receive,” drawing laughs from the crowd.
Singer and Superstar K3 judge Lee Seung Chul also took home a Style Icon Award.
Fashionista Seo In Young presented the next Style Icon Award to actress Ko So Young, The highly private actress and wife of top star Jang Dong Geun accepted the award, looking effortlessly glamorous in a short mini and jacket.
Singer Kim Hyun Joong, the two-time Popularity Award winner, was the recipient of the Kia Soul People’s Choice Award this year. The singer, also put on a flashy performance, with leggy models and all, at the ceremony, singing Do You Like That and Lucky Guy.
Finally, Girls’ Generation was awarded the last Style Icon Award of the night, immediately following its energetic performance of hit songs The Boys and Gee. The girls walked the red carpet in black and gold, donning pant suits and short minis that emphasized each member’s best features.
The star-studded event was truly a night to celebrate the most stylish and fashion-forward stars.
