‘A Gentleman’s Dignity’ to be Used by the Ministry for Public Interest
A clip from the drama A Gentleman’s Dignity may be used by the Ministry of Employment and Labor to serve for public interest.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor sent an official notice to the production company of A Gentleman’s Dignity, requesting a clip from the drama’s 11th episode.
According to the Ministry, the clip effectively covered what the public needs to know about underage work regulations.
The clip is of a scene showing Seo Yi Su (Kim Ha Neul) at the hospital talking with someone who had hired one of her students, Kim Dong Hyup (Kim Woo Bin).
Yi Su had rushed to the hospital after hearing that Dong Hyup had been involved in an accident, and when the shop owner threatened Dong Hyup, saying that she wouldn’t pay for his hospital treatment or his wages because he had crashed her motorcycle, Yi Su pointed out what she did wrong when she hired Dong Hyup in the first place one by one.
Yi Su said, “You know what the Teenage Labor Laws are, right? Did you know that [Dong Hyup] is under 18 years of age? Did you have his consent whenever you asked him to work at night? Did you pay him 50 percent more than the wage you offered? Did you keep him from working more than seven hours on days he had school off? Did you get him motorcycle insurance?”
The dialogue was said to provide useful pointers on the main points of the Teenage Labor Laws.
A rep from the Ministry said, “It’s a prime example that can help teenagers find protection from the poor treatment they may receive in their part time jobs, and it also teaches shop owners what they need to keep to when hiring an underage worker.”
An official from the production company Hwa&Dam Pictures said, “We’re happy that A Gentleman’s Dignity is not only being loved by our viewers, but will also be used for public interest in ways that can help society. As much as the actors and producers are doing their best to film the drama, we’ll continue to work hard to put together a great piece.”
