Baek A Yeon′s Shouldn′t Have, which was released on May 20, has taken the music scene by storm and is currently ranked number one on various music charts. The song, which made a mediocre debut and almost faded away, began going in the opposite direction as word spread to reach number one, exciting JYP.

According to the agency, Baek A Yeon didn′t have special promotions planned beyond the song′s release. She wanted her music to speak for itself. Reactions to Shouldn′t Have were positive after the first listen internally, and the team had high hopes. However, the song didn′t perform as well as expected when it was released, and, as rumor has it, left many feeling frustrated.

A rep from JYP told Newsen on June 16, "It′s true we were frustrated because the results weren′t great in the beginning. But after the song blew up, the reaction internally seems to be astonishment."

"After heading in the opposite direction, we really had no idea it would reach number one," continued the rep. "We decided to hold music program promotions as well in order to make the good song more known to the public."

What does the JYP source think is the main cause for Shouldn′t Have′s popularity? The source said, "I think the strength of the lyrics and resonance played a big role."

"I think Baek A Yeon′s personal experience will also bring the song′s authenticity to life," continued the rep. "With so many fast, dance songs out this summer, I think having an emotional ballad out was an advantage in this situation."
