SBS’s new drama A Tree with Deep Roots earned a viewership rating of nearly 20 percent for its third peisode, reinforcing the speculation that the drama will break SBS′s bad luck with historical dramas.

According to the AGB Nielsen Media Research, the third episode of the drama recorded a viewership rating of 18.2 % nationwide, almost double the ratings from the first and second episodes, 9.5 percent and 9.8 percent, respectively.

′A Tree with Deep Roots′ Breaks SBS′s Losing Streak

The sharp growth in viewing ratings can be attributable to the end of its competing drama, KBS’s The Princess′ Man . But the fact that MBC’s Can’t Lose failed to take those viewers indicates A Tree with Deep Roots is grabbing audience attention.

From the first episode, b> A Tree with Deep Roots was well received due to its tight storyline and impressive acting of the cast including Baek Yoon Sik, Jang Hyuk, and Song Joong Gi.

This favorable review drove up the viewer ratings as soon as The Princess’s Man wrapped up. On the other hand, Man of Honor which succeeded The Princess’s Man started off with a small viewership rating of 8.2 percent for its first episode on October 12.

With A Tree with Deep Roots putting up a good record, it looks like a streak of bad luck of SBS’s historical drama has been broken. Its third episode’s viewership far exceeded the viewership recorded by Painter of the Wind (2008), Princess Ja Myung Go (2009) or Jejoongwon (2010).

But it′s not too big of a surprise, as the drama is backed by writer Kim Young Hyun of Dae Jang Geum and writer Park Sang Yeon of the film Joint Security Area , who′ve joined together for the first time since the hit drama Queen Seon Deok .

We′ll see if the drama continues to do as well, but from the looks of things, there′s not much to worry about.
