Jung Il Woo became the first Korean actor to be invited to China’s Huading Awards.

The 7th Huading Awards will take place on July 4 in Beijing. The ceremony limited its nominees to Chinese actors until last year, but this year, it turned its eyes to Asia and chose its winners through an Asian celebrity satisfaction survey.

100 Asian stars were chosen during the past year through phone research surveys and online polls taken through Sina.com, Sohu.com and the Huading Awards’ official webpage. Thousands of netizens and expert judges then pitched in with evaluations to choose the winners in each category, and Jung Il Woo was ultimately chosen as Korea’s representative male actor.

Jung Il Woo already made issues in the country with tvN’s Cool Guys, Hot Ramen when it ranked no. 1 on a site that relayed the drama live. Recently, he drew even more attention to himself by appearing in the variety program Tian Tian Xiang Shang and the Shanghai TV Festival.

Last year’s Huading Awards featured director Wong Karwai, Aaron Kwok, Zhang Ziyi, Tse Ting Fung (Nicholas Tse) and Yen Ji Dan last year, and this year it will be drawing in another star-studded list of guests with Jackie Chan and Tse Ting Fung.

Jung Il Woo will be leaving for China on July 3.
