KCON was first introduced in Los Angeles in the summer of 2012. The event has been held every year since, being called an ′annual pilgrimmage′ for K-pop fans.

CJ E&M is planning to expand KCON to Japan in 2015, combining M COUNTDOWN in Japan with other K-culture highlights, such as beauty, fashion, food and more.

With Japan especially being the place that helped K-culture kick off with the popularity of Korean dramas and music in the hallyu wave, KCON 2015 Japan plans to create more opportunities for fans to enjoy K-culture, with programs such as cover dance competitions, beauty sessions and language lessons.

Japanese-Korean singer, M.I.B′s Kangnam has been named as the ambassador for KCON 2015 Japan.
