[Interview] Ahn Jae Hyeon Used to Starve Excessively in Order to Stay Lean
Ahn Jae Hyeon revealed that he has been working hard since the time he was a model to maintain his lean body.
Ahn Jae Hyeon attended an interview with Newsen on November 4 in a café in Sogyeok-dong and started, “I always watch out for my weight since I’m the type that gains if I eat.”
Becoming a rising star through SBS’s You Who Came From the Stars, Ahn Jae Hyeon is a model-turned-actor, following the footsteps of Kang Dong Won, Kim Woo Bin, Lee Jong Suk and more.
With his handsome looks and fresh charms, he took the lead role in the commercial film Fashion King in just one year since the debut, after starring in You Who Came From the Stars and You’re All Surrounded.
With his low toned voice, which contradicts his baby face, his popularity has been rising by the day.
Revealing that he has watched his weight since the time he modeled, he said, “There were times when my hands would shake from starving during fashion shows. I would eat a row of gimbap before going on stage, to prevent from fainting. In my opinion, male models watch their weight more than female models do.”
Ahn Jae Hyeon said, “I can feel it even if I gain just a little bit of weight. I can see it from the results when I take photos. I lose weight by controlling what I eat and exercising. When I’m on a diet, I usually eat fruits and brown rice and avoid eating carbs. I especially avoid bread, which includes sugar, butter, eggs, and flour,” and laughed.
Having experienced binge eating due to his limiting eating habits, Ahn Jae Hyeon said, “I usually don’t like whipped cream but every time I drink alcohol, I crave foods like that. I was shocked once to find myself devouring whipped cream breads at a café after drinking. I used to have the habit of binge eating after drinking but I got rid of the habit after I started acting.”
He explained, “I realized that ‘health is the most important’ after I started acting. Instead of starving, I try to eat nut products now. I’ve been eating them regularly because everything gets worse if I lose my health.”
Fashion King is a film based on Naver’s popular webtoon series of the same name, which earned over 4.4 million clicks in a week and a total view of 500 million, ranking number one on Naver for 26 weeks.
It tells the story of a high school student named Woo Ki Myung (Joo Won), who opens his eyes to fashion and decides to become the coolest man in the world to gain love of his crush. Ahn Jae Hyeon acted as Woo Ki Myung’s rival Won Ho, Park Se Young played the high school’s goddess and Sulli played the top student.
The film is set to premiere on November 6.
