In celebration of Hangul Day, we′ve decided to roll out a special series introducing you to the Korean alphabet (consonants only)! We′ve selected a celebrity for each letter of the Korean alphabet as well as a correlating vocabulary word!

We′ll be teaching you how to say the Korean words properly as well as give you some sentences showing you how to use the words in daily conversation - so time to get studying, K-entertainment style!

[Hangul Day Special] ㅋ is for KEY

ㅋ(K, Q)

키 (Key):
1. singer (SHINee), musical actor
2. height

1. cheerful, lively

Used to create the ‘K’ and ‘Q’ sounds, consonant may seem familiar to all the Kpop fans out there because the Korean people, including all your favorite celebs, use so many times on a regular day basis when expressing snickering on SNS (ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ - the lazy version of 크크크크크크 or kekekekekeke).

Strangely enough, there aren’t a lot of Korean words that use other than Koreanized English terms, but we managed to find a good adjective to describe SHINee’s Key, who is under our spotlight.

From what we’ve seen, Key has quite often carried a positive and bright personality that has led us to believe that he is a pretty 쾌활한 person. Whether it be during SHINee promotions, his musical activities, or even when on dates with his ex-virtual wife, Key carries that cheerful aura with him everywhere he goes, making the atmosphere comfortable and and lifting the spirits of those around him.

Thumbs up to our 쾌활한 Key!

1. “키는 쾌활해서 좋다.” - I like Key because he’s lively.
Key-neun kwae-hwal-hae-suh jot-da.

2. “키의 쾌활함에 반해버렸다.” - I fell for Key’s brightness.
Key-ae kwae-hwal-hahm-ae ban-hae-buh-ryut-da.

3. “키는 쾌활하고 수다스럽다.” - Key is animated and talkative.”
Key-neun kwae-hwal-ha-go soo-da-seu-rup-dah.
