Top Hallyu Stars Perform At Korean Wave Dream Concert
The top hallyu stars embroidered the night sky of Gyeongju on Monday, filling the city with fans, music and star power.
At the 2011 Korean Wave Dream Concert, arguably one of the most established K-Pop concerts in Korea, some of the top idols, including Girls’ Generation, GD& TOP, TVXQ, 2PM, B2ST, SHINee, 4Minute, Miss A, Secret, ZE:A, A Pink attended and put on passionate performances.
The venue was packed with more than 20,000 fans coming from home and abroad, while reporters from more than hundred news outlets from home and abroad competed to get a good scoop on the concert.
The concert was hosted by actress Park Shin Hye, Ok Taecyeon of 2PM, and Minho of Shinee. The hosts offered up greetings in Korean, Chinese, and Japanese for fans coming from Japan and China. The weather was chilly, but the audience showed their fervent responses to the end.
The concert kicked off with ZE:A, followed by performances from A Pink, Gil Hak Mi, Seo In Guk, Secret, miss A, Kim Bo Kyeong, IU, 4minute and Seven in the first segment.
Singers from Mnet’s Superstar K, Seo In Guk, Gil Hak Mi, Kim Bo Kyeong overwhelmed the stage with their powerful voices. In particular, Kim Bo Kyeong moved the audience deeply, showing off her superb vocal ability with her song It Hurts.
The first segment ended with GD&TOP’s performance. As the duo appeared on the stage, the audience greeted them with thunderous applause, which continued until the two finished performing High High and Oh Yeah.
The second segment had performances from T-ara, Sistar, B2ST, MBLAQ, Shinee, Girls’ Generation, 2PM, TVXQ, and Kim Gun Mo.
Girls’ Generation, which is set to make a comeback soon, performed Genie and Hoot, with the audience showing enthusiastic responses at every motion and 2PM heated up the stage with performances of Hands Up and 10 Points Out of 10.
But the hallyu kings, TVXQ, drew the most fervent responses by far. The group performed Maximum and Keep Your Head Down and kept the fans on their feet the entire time.
After all the idols, veteran singer Kim Gun Mo took his rightful place on stage and performed his hit songs, A Sadder Day Than Yesterday, Woman in the Rain and Excuse. The singer drew a reaction from the audience as strong as the ones brought out by the young idol stars, with his signature comic dance and skillful performances.
After Kim Gun Mo’s performance, all the singers sang together Arirang, a traditional Korean folk song, as the finale.
The Korean Wave Dream Concert is an extension of the Dream Concert, which began 17 years ago. This year’s concert drew around 8,000 foreign tourists, confirming the global popularity of K-Pop.
The 2011 Korean Wave Dream Concert will air on Mnet on October 6.
