On May 20, the Superstar K4 production team told enews, “Usually when the region’s preliminaries close, applications are no longer accepted and the number of applicants go down, but this year, even with the ending of preliminaries in Busan, Gwangju, and other regions, the number of applicants isn’t shrinking. “

Along with the growing number of applicants, the public interest is heightening with Lee Seung Chul and Psy as the show’s judges.

In the press conference for Superstar K4 on May 3, the judges stated, “If the applications reach over 2,000,000, we’ll take of our shirts and climb the Chunggye Mountain.” As the numbers keep rising, the production team showed its support for the two judges, who just may end up climbing a mountain.

Mnet also added, “The tiredness that usually comes with audition programs seems to make an exception for Superstar K4. We believe that the overwhelming number of applicants is due to the tremnendous success and popularity of Huh Gak, John Park, Ulala Session and Busker Busker after participating in season 2 and 3,”

Superstar K4 mentioned, “Instead of the prize at the end of the competition, the most important thing is that these applicants can fulfill their dreams of becoming a singer. We are currently making preparations to welcome the second Huh Gak, John Park, Ulala Session, and Busker Busker. Since there is still some time left, we hope the talented and energetic applicants will continue to challenge themselves.”

From all the applications, 51 percent are male, 43 percent are female and 6 percent are groups. There are currently 8,000 teams with more than two members.

Regionally, Seoul counts for the highest number of applicants with 38.3 percent, followed by Daegu with 12.8 percent, Incheon and Daejun with 10 percent. The preliminaries for Jeju, Busan, Gwangju, and Wonju have ended.

With all preliminaries ending in July, the first broadcast for Superstar K4 will be aired on August 17.
