[Interview] BoA Was Startled By Paparazzi When She Filmed Kiss Scene On Street
With her first Hollywood film Make Your Move about to premiere, BoA shared her thoughts on having starred in her first film.
In a recent interview with Newsen, BoA said, “Even though I showed my acting previously through KBS 2TV’s Looking Forward to Romance, my actually first project is Make Your Move. So my first kiss scene was not with Im Si Wan, but was with Derek Hough.”
She continued, “Before I started filming I received some acting lessons. I took them with Derek Hough. So we ended up practicing the kiss scene once, because the teacher asked us to. Practice definitely made a difference. So I wasn’t too nervous during filming. I was more distracted by many things.”
“You’ll see in the movie that Derek Hough and I have a kiss scene on the street. There were so many people when we filmed the scene and I was shocked to see paparazzi too. So we wrapped up filming quickly. I think pictures also spread in Korea and I remembers fans furiously commented, ‘What are you doing on the street, kissing some actor.’ It was a fun memory,” she said.
About the scene that reminds one of a bed scene, BoA said, “I didn’t know that the scene would come out that sexy. The scene was difficult to film.”
“Since I’m a singer, the dancing scenes were less difficult than the ones with lines. The choreography was made to express the character’s feelings and the couple dance was also designed so that Derek and I communicated with each other through dancing,” said BoA. “I naturally fell for my character. I did feel pressure about saying my lines in English but I did the best I could. I didn’t want to feel small in front of the foreigners.”
About her relationship with her co-star Derek Hough, BoA commented, “We did exchange emails a couple times after filming finished, but we haven’t been able to keep in constant touch. But you know there are friends you meet again after many years apart and you feel like you met them yesterday. Derek Hough is a friend like that to me. He is the closest foreign friend I have. I received a lot of help from him.”
BoA revealed that her character ‘Aya’ has many similarities to herself. Even though Aya is Korean Japanese, it didn’t feel strange to her as she also spent many years promoting in Japan. They are also similar in that they both love dancing and are close to their older brothers. The only difference may be the baby fat on Aya’s cheeks.
BoA said, “The movie was filmed three years ago. I had a lot of baby fat on my cheeks then. The movie itself is fun but it might be interesting to see me as three years ago.”
Meanwhile, Make Your Move will be premiering in Korea and America on April 17.
