Park Jin Young’s Mother Wins Admirable Mother Award
Yun Im Ja, mother of singer and producer Park Jin Young, will be winning an award for being an admirable mother.
On May 2, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced its list of seven people to receive the Admirable Mothers of Artists Award, a list which includes Yun.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism established the Admirable Mothers of Artists Award in 1991 to praise mothers who managed to raise their sons and daughters as great artists even in difficult situations, and to encourage the cultivation of such talents. The Award has thus met its 22nd list of awardees this year.
A rep from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism introduced Yun as “the mother of singer and producer Park Jin Young, who, as a talented singer and composer, stood at the forefront of K-Pop with attempts that were always one step ahead of the trend, and as a producer, brought up the idol groups that currently stand at the center of the global K-Pop boom.”
Other winners of the award this year include Shim Kye Sun, mother of poet Hong Seong Ran, Eom Yun Ju, mother of video artist Kim Chang Kyeom, Kim Mi Ryeong, mother of cellist Baek Na Yeong and violinist Baek Ju Yeong, Lee Jeong Ja, mother of traditional musician Chae Jo Byeong, Jin Ok Seop, mother of playwright Bae Sam Sik and Seol Hyeon Ju, mother of ballerina Kim Ju Won.
The ceremony will be held on May 7 in Seoul. The sons and daughters of the winners will be putting on performances in celebration of their mothers’ achievements, and the mothers themselves will be invited to talk about what they had to go through to support their children.
