[Interview] Quickly Evolving Idol Teen Top to Spread Hallyu Across the Globe
With an increasing number of K-Pop artists making their debuts abroad, fans in Japan have also been gearing their attention to many K-Pop idols.
Of all the idol groups, Teen Top stands out for choosing a slightly different approach to making its presence be recognized in Japan.
Starting with Nagoya on February 5, Teen Top performed in Yokohama, Osaka and Fukuoka, gathering over 50,000 fans for its arena tour. It’s a notable achievement, considering that the group has not made its official debut in the country.
The following is a Q&A with Teen Top, which took place before its performance in Fukuoka.
-Can you say something to your fans before you begin your show today??
“We will be doing our best to show an awesome finale performance. We’ve prepared a number of stages to show each member’s unique abilities.”
-How do you feel about performing the last concert of your arena tour??
“We’ve already performed five time, but we feel more sad to be wrapping the tour up. We would like to have another opportunity to meet with fans through performance in the near future.”
-What did you earn from doing the arena tour??
“All of us have matured more. All members have literally become adults beginning in 2014. And we feel that our performances have evolved to express more. Fans have helped us the most to advance in our skills. We feel tired during performance too, but fans’ cheers help us to forget the fatigue. Fan support has really synergized the arena tour.”
-You haven’t debuted in Japan, but how did you gain popularity?
“We think that our own unique colors, and our group performances really appealed to the public.”
-What does Teen Top think about the rumor that says K-Pop has been going down the hill?
“They say that it’s been going down, but we cannot feel it. We’re simply thankful for the fans who come to see us at our concerts. We’re just happy to be performing and meeting with the fans.”
-Niel and Changjo prepared sexy performance. Was there any difficulty?
“To be honest, the choreography was a bit too sexy, so we had to adjust it. After making it less sexy, it was easier to practice too. Other than that, it hasn’t been difficult.”
-Which city left the biggest impression on you while doing the arena tour?
“As of now, Yokohama concert left the biggest impression. Many people came to our concert, despite the heavy snowstorm. We performed more passionately, after seeing how many people came despite the bad weather condition.”
-What is your goal after finishing the arena tour?
“Once we finish the arena tour, we’ll be scheduling a world tour. Starting with Korea, we’ll be performing in China, Taiwan, America and Europe. We’ll let you know once the schedule comes out.”
Meanwhile, Teen Top will be holding Teen Top 2014 World Tour ‘High Kick’ in Seoul on February 22 and 23, at Olympic Park’s Olympic Hall.
