Lee Wan revealed how he was helped (and also how he wasn’t helped) by his sister Kim Tae Hee in the military.

The actor was released from the Defense Media Agency on April 23, one year and nine months after his enlistment in July 2010. Korean and overseas fans alike waited in the rain to congratulate him on his release, joined by dozens of media outlets.

When the press mentioned that it should’ve been easier for him to get through the military thanks to his sister, Lee Wan said, “I got 2,000 autographs from my sister. I think I got 300 whenever I got mail and whenever I went out on leaves. I just want to say one thing. Thank you, Miss Kim Tae Hee.”

“I keep joking, but I did receive a lot of help from my sister in my life and especially in the military,” he said on a more serious note.

When asked whether he was sad his sister couldn’t make it to his release because she was in a commercial shoot, Lee Wan answered, “I think that’s just an excuse. We talked over the phone yesterday and I did think maybe she would come.”

To a question asking whether Kim Tae Hee ever came to visit him, he said to laughter from his audience, “I think she didn’t come often because her home is close by. It was better that she didn’t come because if she had, my juniors would’ve gotten tired having to clean and prepare for her visit.”

“A lot of my seniors, colleagues and juniors said they were fans of Kim Tae Hee, but Kim Ji Suk was the one who said he likes Tae Hee nuna (older sister) the most,” he added.

Lee Wan debuted as an actor through SBS’ Stairway to Heaven. He continued to star in such pieces as KBS2’s In Soon is Pretty, SBS’ Swallow the Sun and the film Boys Don’t Cry. He is currently considering his next piece and will hold a fanmeeting near the end of May.
