EXO’s Album ‘XOXO’ Sells Over a Million Copies
On December 27, EXO broke the one million mark!
SM Entertainment stated, “EXO’s first official album sold 471,570 copies and its repackaged album sold 536,007 copies, for a total of over a million copies sold as of December 27.”
Breaking album sales of a million copies is an achievement that K-Pop stars have not reached in about 12 years, with g.o.d.’s fourth album making the record in 2001.
Due to illegal downloads of songs, the album sales had been decreasing drastically, until the legal online music market was established in 2005.
EXO is the first to sell a million albums since 2001, marking a major feat in K-Pop history.
Additionally, EXO’s winter special album also sold approximately 430,000 copies, resulting in the group selling a total of over 1.4 million copies of its albums this year.
EXO’s Growl has received lots of recognition throughout the year by winning first place on music charts, album sales and music programs as well as winning awards from MelOn Music Awards and 2013 Mnet Asian Music Awards.
“We thank everyone who made it possible for our album to become a million seller,” said EXO. “2013 will be an unforgettable year for us for having received so much love from many fans, and accomplishing many things. We will continue to work hard next year to return the love and support that we received.”
Meanwhile, EXO will be attending various end-of-year ceremonies to wrap up the rest of 2013.
