Why Did Lee Seung Gi Leave ‘1 Night, 2 Days’ and ‘Strong Heart’?
Lee Seung Gi, singer, actor, show host and general all-star, recently opened up on why he decided to leave behind his variety ways.
Lee Seung Gi appeared at the press conference for MBC’s upcoming drama The King 2hearts held in Seoul on March 8, and said, “I still have a lot to learn about variety. I decided it would be hard to continue leading it alone."
“Coincidentally, with the start of the drama, I came to leave all of my variety programs. 1 Night, 2 Days was already going to be discontinued, and after Kang Ho Dong sunbaenim (senior) left Strong Heart, I was thinking that the program wasn′t one I could lead by myself, but it was extended. I still have a lot to learn about variety. I decided it would be hard to continue leading it alone,” Lee Seung Gi said.
He emphasized, “I got to learn a lot after starring in the drama with other great actor sunbaenims. If I hadn’t left variety, I would’ve been physically tired, but I didn’t leave variety because of the drama.”
About his promotions in Japan, he said, “I started promoting as a singer in Japan with a single titled Love Time, but I didn’t go to Japan thinking of venturing there as an actor also through The King 2Hearts. I wasn’t trying to be strategic.”
Producer Lee Jae Gyu and actors Lee Seung Gi, Ha Ji Won, Yoon Je Moon, Lee Yoon Ji and Jo Jeong Seok appeared at the press conference to answer the press’ questions after an airing of the drama’s preview.
The King 2Hearts is about Korea if ruled by a constitutional monarchy, and how the Crown Prince of South Korea, Lee Jae Ha (Lee Seung Gi) falls in love with a North Korean Special Forces instructor Kim Hang Ah (Ha Ji Won). It will air its first episode on March 21 after The Sun and the Moon comes to a close.
