Lee Seung Gi and Uhm Tae Woong to Fight for Drama King Title
Today’s friend is tomorrow’s foe. The saying will soon come to life between Lee Seung Gi and Uhm Tae Woong.
Lee Seung Gi and Uhm Tae Woong of KBS2’s 1 Night, 2 Days will be battling it out in the same time slot for their dramas, which also coincidentally start up on the same day, March 14.
Lee Seung Gi will be making a return to acting with his role in MBC’s The King 2hearts, which will follow The Sun and the Moon. This is his first acting piece in a year and a half since SBS’ My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, which aired its last episode in September 2010.
The King 2hearts, which stars Lee Seung Gi and Ha Ji Won, is a piece by the producer Lee Jae Gyu and writer Hong Jin Ah team from MBC’s Beethoven Virus, and is a human-melo-black-comedy piece about how the South Korean prince Lee Jae Ha (Lee Seung Gi) meets a North Korean instructor Kim Hang Ah (Ha Ji Won) and forms a love relationship after overcoming obstacles and the prejudices they hold against each other.
KBS2’s The Equator Man, starring Uhm Tae Woong, one of the most anticipated pieces of 2012, is an emotional melodrama with a revenge twist, talking about conflicts that arise from greed and unfulfilled love, and the forgiveness that follows. The piece will air after Ordinary Love, and is KBS’ new weapon, bringing in writer Kim In Young of Women in the Sun and director Kim Yong Soo of White Christmas.
The teaser video, which features narrations by Uhm Tae Woong and Lee Joon Hyuk, saying, “I chose revenge instead of my friend under the sun of the equator” and “I wanted to avoid the sun of the equator for 15 years. I only wanted to fly high,” is heightening anticipation for the drama. The contrast in image of the two narrators is hinting at their relationship, touching on the curiosity of viewers.
The battle is also proving to be more interesting not only in that the two were the more good-looking visual members of 1 Night, 2 Days, but also in that it’s important on who gets most of the 40 percent ratings currently taken up by The Sun and the Moon.
This is mostly the reason why KBS2 didn’t come out with The Equator Man right after Wild Romance but instead inserted the four episode long Ordinary Love in between.
SBS has its own hidden weapon: JYJ’s Park Yoo Chun. Rooftop Prince will be joining the fight also on the same day with MBC’s The King 2hearts and KBS2’s The Equator Man. The story of the drama is about how the Crown Prince Lee Gak loses his Crown Princess but rushes to 21st century Seoul, 300 years into the future, with his men to fulfill his love. It stars Park Yoo Chun, Han Ji Min and Jung Yu Mi.
