Jang Keun Suk Clears Up Rumors About Surgery, Men and Underwear
So why exactly did the teenage Jang Keun Suk decide to shoot that underwear ad? Did he really get a nose job? For those fans and viewers who were eagerly waiting the conclusion to Jang’s visit to the gurus, the show didn’t disappoint, as it covered Jang’s plastic surgery (rumors?) to his odd history with underwear...again.
All these questions and more were answered on the second episode of Jang’s appearance in Kneedrop Guru, broadcast on September 14. The final installment of Jang’s segment proved that the young actor was a frank and outspoken man, who could still somehow skillfully walk the fine line between arrogance and wit.
For those fans and viewers who were eagerly waiting the conclusion to Jang’s visit to the gurus, the show didn’t disappoint, as it covered Jang’s plastic surgery (rumors?) to his odd history with underwear...again.
While Jang’s face might seem a little too picturesque, Jang swears that he didn’t get surgery. When MC Kang Ho Dong asked “why” he got a nose job (not if!), Jang responded quickly, “Many are suspicious, but I didn’t have surgery.”
His mischievous nature kicked in once again, as he then proceeded to ‘show’ the gurus his ‘nose show’…which is just as weird as it sounds. The indomitable star pinched and twisted his nose this way and that to prove once and for all that his nose was in fact, untouched by man.
After twisting his nose into a pig snout, he even started twisting the bridge of his nose, saying, “If I make a pig snout, they’ll start to be suspicious of the bridge.” Kang Ho Dong had to stop Jang in the end with a “That’s enough.”
But Jang has a good enough reason for going to such extremes to prove his nose is 100 percent real – no one would believe him otherwise.
“When new people come in to do my makeup, they always slow down when they’re doing my nose. It’s really fun to see them be careful because they think I had surgery,” he said.
Rumors about his nose weren’t the only rumors that flew around about Jang, which, combined with his pretty looks, probably put him on the ‘dislike’ list of the majority of males. To break that wall, Jang stated he wanted to become friends with Lee Seung Gi, one of the most universally loved celebrities in Korea.
“Everyone likes Lee Seung Gi, but men don’t like me. I thought maybe I could absorb some of Lee Seung Gi’s audience if I came closer to him,” Jang said.
He even sent Lee Seung Gi a video message, saying, “Mr. Lee Seung Gi. Let’s have a drink together, us men. I really want to be friends with you. I need male fans. I want to meet you, friend.
Soon after, he realized Lee Seung Gi was older than he was, as Lee was born in January of 1987, and added cutely, “Hyung, let’s have a drink. Like men.”

Jang Keun Suk’s Kneedrop Guru wasn’t all jokes and laughter though. Jang showed his more serious and mature side when he again addressed the famous underwear advertisement he had shot as a young boy.
"When we were having hard times, my mother got a contract for an advertisement, but I didn’t want to do it because I was embarrassed when I heard it was an underwear ad. I even whined that I didn’t want to do it while we were standing in front of the doors of the studio,” said Jang. “But when I heard the sounds of the shutter snapping in the studio, I thought ‘I should be the one to do it’. I went in even before my mom did, greeted the staff, and started shooting. I was immersed in that moment when I was taking the pictures.”
“I received 2.2 million won for modeling, and the one year rent for my family’s house back then was exactly 2.2 million won. The kids in school teased me, saying, ‘You didn’t come to school to shoot something like this?’ But I didn’t care because I had earned a year’s worth of rent,” he continued.
With his visit to Kneedrop Guru Jang satiated the curiosity of many, including his fans and even those who held suspicions against him. Of course, every single rumor, issue, and suspicion could not be addressed (the man is scandal prone!), but the two episodes of Kneedrop Guru seemed to be enough to serve as an answer to the many questions the public had about this rediscovered Hallyu star.
