Great Expectations for John Park’s Debut Album With Kim Dong Ryul
Superstar K2 runner-up John Park will officially announce his debut with the release of his new album on February 22.
Since making it to the finals of Superstar K2, Park was one of the few standouts from the show who′s stayed under the radar while his fellow contestants all made their debuts before him. Superstar K2 winner, Huh Gak, debuted last year and even managed to win the Best Newcomer award. Fellow finalists Jang Jae In, Kang Seung Yoon and Kim Ji Soo have all made their debuts as well.
Although Park was as popular as Huh Gak during the Superstar K2 season, he took a rather slow and cautious approach in preparation for his debut album.
Park was the last Superstar K2 finalist to sign a contract with an agency. As a Korean American, many ‘hallyu’ agencies, such as actor Bae Yong Jun′s Key East agency, offered to take Park under their wings.
Instead, Park chose to join Music Farm, a company known for housing well-known musicians such as Lee Juk, Kim Dong Ryul, Lee Sang Hoon, Jung Soon Yong and Jo Won Sun.
The choice reflected Park′s resolve to become a legitimate musician before entering the hallyu world.
Park signed a contract with Music Farm in March 201 and slowly began preparing for his debut album. It took him 11 months to complete his first album, and that was 16 months after the end of Superstar K2, which ended on October 2010.
Many have been eagerly anticipating Park and his album have been, especially as he was touted as Huh Gak′s main rival during Superstar K2, and was also highly popular in his own right.
When it became known that Kim Dong Ryul was the album’s producer and that Park received advice from many of the Music Farm musicians, the interest in his debut album intensified. Fans are especially curious to see the type of songs Kim Dong Ryul composed for Park.
A spokesperson from Music Farm said, "Although Park is a new singer, our schedule is filled to the brim with interview requests. We want to thank all of you for showing so much interest in Park′s debut album."
