Debuting in 1997, S.E.S was considered the first idol girl group in the history of K-Pop, but unfortunately, the group wasn’t able to last more than the cursed five years, and Eugene is now revealing why.

On April 25, Eugene appeared as a guest on MBC’s Kneedrop Guru, where she talked about her rise to stardom.

After being scouted personally by Lee Soo Man, Eugene had a successful career as an S.E.S member until her contract was up in 2002.

“Bada, Shoo, and I all wanted to re-sign together as S.E.S, but the company wanted to sign us individually. We weren’t able to come down to an agreement,” explained Eugene. “We realized that re-signing would not come easy. The three of talked a lot about this, and in the end, decided that it would be best to go our separate ways. We now talk about how we disbanded kind of coolly.”

Eugene explained that back then, it wasn’t easy for group members to do individual activities. “It was like betraying the other team members,” said Eugene. “If it was possible to do individual promotions at the time, we probably wouldn’t have disbanded so early.”

The members of S.E.S are still in contact and good terms, despite going their separate ways.
