Oricon Deems 2NE1 “The Girl Group of the Next Generation”
Japanese music chart Oricon is gaining interest for its high praise of 2NE1 as “the girl group of the next generation.”
Through its main homepage on August 11, Oricon stated, “The jacket photo for 2NE1’s Japanese Debut Mini Album ‘Let’s Play’ has been revealed. Pop artist Mari Kim was the creative mind behind the image, which caricatures each member’s strong features, and she even makes an appearance in ‘Hate You.’”
It went on to add, “2NE1, the sister group of the wildly popular group Big Bang, is gaining popularity as the girl group of the next generation through its distinct musical sound as well as through the member′s singing ability, unique fashion, makeup, and hairstyles.”
Since announcing plans to debut in Japan earlier this year, 2NE1 has been attracting significant media attention and expectations are high as Japanese fans anxiously await the group’s debut, which has been delayed by the recent earthquakes.
Last month, YG Entertainment also announced the establishment of YGEX, a joint label in partnership with Japan’s premier entertainment management agency Avex Entertainment, further bolstering 2NE1’s potential for success. Artists under the new label will be able to focus on actively promoting themselves in Japan.
There is a growing interest in 2NE1 and whether the group will be able to lead a new Hallyu wave.
Meanwhile, 2NE1 is set to kick off their tour ‘2NE1 1st Japan Tour “NOLZA in Japan”’ on September 19 at the Kanagawa Yokohama Arena before the release of its album on September 24.
