[Recap: Flower Boys Next Door] Episode 15 – Love Sometimes Wants the Long Road
Apologies for the tardy recaps, but the reptition of the same conflict has been making us procastinate.
In another sense, we want to see Enrique for as long as we can, because when will we see another character like Enrique? Never.
We′re taking in every second of detective puppy in this episode, with his super cute apple hair.
Avoiding Enrique’s sad puppy face, Jin Rak pulls Dok Mi out of the studio. Once outside, Dok Mi is the one pulling her hand away from Jin Rak. She quickly apologizes, and for once, Jin Rak gets angry that this is she specifically asked for.
Looking down, Jin Rak states the obvious: it’s too hard for Dok Mi to even pretend to have something with him. Dok Mi doesn’t reply but just looks away.
“You say I’m a good person and I might have had a chance at one point, so I regret like crazily that I lost that opportunity.” Jin Rak starts to cry and he quickly wipes his tears away, telling Dok Mi to leave so he can give her up.
Enrique walks up to them and tells Jin Rak to stop, because he can’t take it anymore. He takes Dok Mi by the hand, leaving Jin Rak alone. He tells her to go inside since Enrique has something to discuss with Jin Rak. Despite Dok Mi telling him to stop, Enrique walks back over to Jin Rak.
Enrique fesses up that he heard everything Jin Rak and Dok Mi talked about.
Jin Rak told Dok Mi to go with him, but Dok Mi replied that she doesn’t have enough confidence to do so, but she still wants to see Enrique to achieve his dreams. It hurts too much to smile with him next to her as well.
Enrique tells Jin Rak that he knows what Jin Rak’s going through, but purposely chose to ignore it because all he sees at the moment is Dok Mi.
In response, Jin Rak corrects Enrique, saying Enrique will never understand what Jin Rak’s going through – all the thoughts and feelings. This time, Jin Rak leaves first.
Back at Enrique’s apartment, Dok Mi waits for Enrique, when Seo Young texts to Enrique’s phone, telling him to return to Spain and fulfill his dreams. Dok Mi remembers what Enrique said about not able to pass by people who have closed hearts. She pulls up her phone and looks at the photos of Enrique and Seo Young and her head gets even more clouded.
Enrique happily enters the kitchen and pouts that he was a bit jealous when Dok Mi said Jin Rak was a good person. Dok Mi doesn’t respond kindly to his joke, and instead straightforwardly tells him she’s not going to Spain.
Enrique’s face falls as he acknowledges her answer, replying he’ll just stay in Korea. Dok Mi cuts him off, telling Enrique to stop because she’s no longer happy.
Enrique gets angry, telling her to stop pretending because he can hear her thoughts. Dok Mi asks Enrique to go back, since he did his thing and got her out into the world.
“Look into your own heart. It might not be love,” says Dok Mi, referring to what Enrique said in his book. “I don’t want that kind of pity.”
Enrique is in disbelief that Dok Mi still doesn’t know about what he wants, even after editing his book. “Do you think I left everything behind, not knowing what my heart wants?”
Dok Mi stands strong. She tells him to stop cornering her back in since she can’t send him away or keep him near.
“Then what do you want me to do?” explodes Enrique. “I can’t let you go, but it’s hard for me since you’re pushing me away.” He asks what she really wants, and Dok Mi spews that she doesn’t trust someone who already left once.
It leaves Enrique speechless and hurt and he begins to walk away.
He stops. “Was that it?”
Enrique says at the time, he thought he was supposed to stop. Dok Mi replies that the situation hasn’t changed; it’s time for him to stop again.
“Are you sincere? Are you sure you won’t regret what you just said?”
When Dok Mi doesn’t answer, Enrique says he understands and asks her to leave. She obeys, but stands in front of his closed apartment door.
Just then, Enrique receives another text from Seo Young, asking for a response. It finally hits Enrique that Dok Mi read Seo Young’s text.
At Do Hui’s apartment, Dong Hoon takes back his comment about liking mean people, especially when they’re willing to use people and their feelings. He informs Do Hui that she won’t be able to find the kind of man she wants in Jin Rak, since he’s not the son of wealthy family anymore.
Dong Hoon leaves the studio, letting Do Hui think over everything that happened.
Alone in her apartment, Dok Mi heads to the window. Across the street, Enrique is also there, hiding slightly behind his curtains. When Dok Mi notices, she closes her curtains, as Enrique slowly does the same.
Defeated, Enrique sinks into his couch, when he notices the USB that Jin Rak gave him before.
The next door, Enrique visits Jin Rak’s house to organize something between them.
The pack ends up at the webtoon company, where the editor has turned on her sparkly eyes at Enrique, while Dong Hoon tries hard to grab her attention.
Enrique explains that they’re actually there to prove that there is no plagiarism going on between Jin Rak and Enrique. Photos are taken as Dong Hoon jealously watches the editor hanging onto Enrique.
The editor comments that Enrique is handsome from head to toe, even his backpack is awesome. Dong Hoon bickers that a backpack is a backpack and shoos Jin Rak and Enrique away.
Leaving the building, Jin Rak asks why Enrique is doing this…as if he’s going to leave soon. Enrique wonders why people keep asking if he’s leaving soon or telling him to leave while they’re at it.
“It’s because I’ve never received love,” replies Jin Rak, who’s only had a life of loneliness and rejection – the same life as Dok Mi. Jin Rak asks once more time if Enrique is leaving.
With a firm voice, Enrique announces that he’s leaving because Dok Mi wants him to.
Anger flickers in Jin Rak’s eyes as he grabs Enrique by the collar, asking if he really doesn’t know why Dok Mi is doing this.
Enrique yells back that if Dok Mi held him back, he wouldn’t leave. He asks why Jin Rak and Dok Mi are so complicated and can’t say what’s on their minds.
At that moment, Jin Rak throws a punch to say everything he wanted to say.
Enrique leaves as Dong Hoon joins Jin Rak.
Jin Rak comments that he must have just wanted to hit Enrique from the start.
After that one punch, it finally feels like everything’s over.
Back at Ocean Villa, Jung Im arrives at the security office to kindly give Soon Chul a packed lunch, when government officials arrive wanting to talk to Soon Chul about the compensation money the residents received.
Jung Im’s confused to why the officials are asking the security guard instead of the apartment manager, and it’s finally revealed that Soon Chul is the owner.
Jin Rak and Dong Hoon arrive just in time to see Soon Chul being taken away and Jin Rak vaguely remembers seeing Soon Chul at the apartment contract signing.
Standing by the window, Enrique puts his hand over the punch and thinks about what both Dok Mi and Jin Rak said about being abandoned once.
Staying by himself all day, Enrique finally understands what it means to be alone.
Although it’s hard, he finally accepts that there are some things that he’ll never understand or find out about a person.
Just as Dok Mi decides to pull the curtains a way, there’s a buzz at her door. It’s Enrique, dressed up as an adorable detective with a giant magnifying glass in hand.
Dok Mi’s completely confused as Enrique announces that he’s here to learn a few things from Teacher Dok Mi.
When Dok Mi asks what he’s doing, Enrique explains that it was extremely hard being alone in a house for a few days and needed some expert opinion on the matter.
He goes through a long explanation why he needs to learn from Dok Mi, because he wants to know why someone like Dok Mi doesn’t understand Enrique’s heart. Before Dok Mi can even say anything, Enrique goes to investigate what he needs to be like Dok Mi.
Trying to get him to stop, Dok Mi apologizes for overreacting, but Enrique brushes it off, until Dok Mi yells.
Enrique sits Dok Mi down and starts to present his report on why Dok Mi acted the way she did on the day of the argument.
He starts to wave the magnifying glass in her face and finally says Dok Mi says Seo Young’s text message. Dok Mi sheepishly admits she did. He asks if he still has the pictures of him and Seo Young. She doesn’t say anything, but reacts when Enrique attempts to check her phone.
“Admit it! The reason why you were so worked up was because you were jealous,” says Enrique, because that’s what happens when in a relationship. He begs for Dok Mi to just tell him not to go to Spain.
When Dok Mi doesn’t say anything, Enrique scowls, saying he must stay at home longer. He respectfully bows out and leaves the home with Dok Mi wanting to say something that gets caught in her throat.
Putting her thoughts into words, Dok Mi types at her desk.
“I try to imitate the way that guy smiles.
I try see the world through that guy’s eyes.
I try to think with that guy’s heart.
To that guy, love is seeing the world in depth through the eyes of two people and the hearts of two people.”
She stresses out, until an idea finally pops up.
The next day, Enrique, who’s bored out of his mind at home, receives an unexpected visitor.
He looks through the peephole to see Dok Mi, who rings the bell consecutively.
When Enrique ignores it, she coughs up a storm, saying she’s sick and needs to go to the hospital. Ha, playing by Enrique’s dirty tricks?
Enrique fights against himself and lets go of the door handle.
Dok Mi tries plan B.
Wearing Enrique’s panda hat, she uses it as an excuse to return it back to him. Enrique scoffs, because the real panda hat went to Spain in his luggage.
What’s next? She claims to have left something in Tae Jun’s room and asks for it. Enrique finds it, but he barely opens the door to slide it through. Dok Mi sighs in defeat, realizing what she finally did to Enrique by not opening her door for him.
Enrique eventually leaves the apartment to work, as the employee asks when Enrique will be returning to Spain.
Upset that everyone’s asking him the same question all the time, Enrique exits the movie theater, only to find Dok Mi standing, waiting for him. He tries to avoid her, wondering how she knew he was there.
“You’re wondering how I knew you were here, huh?”
Great, now Dok Mi’s reading minds.
Enrique starts having a conversation in his head telling himself not to grow weak, but with reply Dok Mi gives, he does just that. He finally looks up at her, and she smiles. That’s the way to talk to people.
Enrique nods vigorously, until Dok Mi stops him by putting her finger on his forehead.
A peculiar feelings falls between them, as Dok Mi smiles.
They make up over drinks with Dok Mi admitting that she was angry because she was jealous, and that only taught her that she really likes him and is not any different than other people.
Enrique adds that he’s also not different and confesses getting hit by Jin Rak after a fight. He notes that Jin Rak is a really amazing person and was jealous of him.
Dok Mi promises not to ignore Enrique ever again because she realized how hard it was to not see him after being stood at his door. Enrique takes it as a confession.
In return, Enrique says he still wants her to think about Do Hui’s perspective instead of treating her like a complete enemy. “Because people are much more mysterious than video game characters.” He encourages her to fight for what she wants instead of holding it in.
“I’m not going to be a person who takes your side without reason, but I will be that one person, that one person that will never change, for you.
Dok Mi breaks into a smile, and they drink and eat in celebration of their confessions to each other. They decide to go on a trip soon.
The editor brings Dong Hoon along to buy the backpack that Enrique had, and while Dong Hoon denies it, he’s oozing of jealousy. She pushes him to try on a backpack. She likes it and immediately pays for it.
As Dong Hoon happily accepts the bag as a fake birthday present, the editor informs him that their webtoon is getting a lot of sympathy votes. She asks if Enrique, Dok Mi, and Jin Rak are in a love triangle.
Meanwhile, crazy stalker fan creates a story Dok Mi is the evil that is keeping their Enrique from going to Spain. And not only that, Dok Mi’s also cheating on him with Jin Rak. They all agree that no matter what the cost, Enrique must go to Spain.
The next thing we know, Dok Mi is plastered over the internet with the story that the fanclub created. Jin Rak realizes that he ended up being the one to shaking things up after warning Enrique not to.
The news spreads fast, even to Do Hui, who starts fidgeting, but then starts typing something on the internet.
The news finally reaches Enrique, who finds Jin Rak standing outside of Dok Mi’s house. Jin Rak sighs, saying he was editing the webtoon to change the story, but now he plans on the taking it down.
Enrique discourages it, saying it’s not Jin Rak’s fault and Enrique will take care of it.
Dok Mi finally finds out what’s happening and Enrique apologizes for bringing up bad memories again. He promises to be by her side and suggest they go on the trip, away from the flaming, but Dok Mi doesn’t want to repeat history again by running away.
Enrique promises that it won’t and asks if she’s willing to go to a very difficult place with him.
Enrique ends up meeting all the fanclub members, who are shocked to see Dok Mi there. One fan angrily gets up to leave, hitting Dok Mi on the way. The encounter immediately brings up bad memories of bullying and Dok Mi’s face becomes gloomy.
Psycho fan demands an explanation from Enrique, replaying the time when Do Hui wanted an answer from her high school teacher too.
“If the teacher told the truth back then, would my life had been different?” thinks Dok Mi. “If Do Hui was on my side, would my life had been different?”
She looks at Enrique. “But that means I would have never met you. That means a fairy would have never visited my life.”
Taking a deep breathe, Enrique announces that he will work on the animation in Spain.
He turns around to Dok Mi, just as a tear falls from her eye.
So many this and that, this and that happening repeatedly that it’s semi-hard to figure out which episode we’re watching.
But we finally get the confirmation that the two needed...only to have Enrique saying he’s leaving her to go to Spain. We’re sure there’s some grand explanation for his words, especially since Enrique is not a dumb puppy, but the question of how he’ll satisfy both his fans and Dok Mi is what’s got our attention.
Also, knowing Enrique, he’s probably not going just let his fanclub bully him around like that. After all, he declared that Dok Mi isn’t a person that comes and goes in his life and he promised to be her one person who doesn’t change, so he has some scolding and lecturing to do to his fanclub.
Plus, that psycho fan is super annoying and needs to learn her place in the world. Can′t wait to see her go.
