The new KBS2 drama You′re the Best Lee Soon Shin has been stewing up a controversy surrounding its use of the name Lee Soon Shin.

′You′re the Best Lee Soon Shin′ Gets KBS Involved in Another Title Controversy

The international youth organization DN, which holds approximately 30 members from Korea, France, Britain, Belgium and other countries around the world, stated that it "filed for a ban of the use of the name ′Lee Soon Shin′ in the drama′s title and character name on March 6."

Lee Soon Shin is a venerated naval commander who fought against the Japanese for the Joseon Dynasty.

"When you search Lee Soon Shin on portal sites, all the search results show IU, who plays the role of Lee Soon Shin in the drama. This could have students think that Lee Soon Shin is simply IU," it said. "Lee Soon Shin is also the icon of success and battle, but IU′s weak and clumsy character may reestablish the image attached to the name."

Netizens also took issue with the lines of the drama, which seemed to belittle General Lee Soon Shin in the process of taunting IU′s role.

An official from KBS said, "We didn′t mean to belittle General Lee Soon Shin, the hero of our country. We wanted to show how the main role matures after overcoming many hardships. We′re sorry such a controversy had to spring up, but we don′t plan to change the title of the drama or the name of our main role."

The debate seems to resemble the controversy that surround Nice Guy and its title. KBS was led to change the title of Nice Guy in the end.

Netizens, in the meantime, have been divided on the issue, as some say the drama should merely be taken as a drama and others assert that the name is not one to be taunted.
