To no one′s surprise, the pretty boys of tvN′s Shut Up: Flower Boy Band were able to keep viewers glued to the small screen.

Flower Boy Band got off to a good start with its first episode, which aired on January 30, amid positive responses from viewers.

In the first episode, the lineup of flower boys, which includes Lee Min Ki, Sung Joon, L, and Lee Hyun Jae, was unveiled and the members who will lead the rock band Easy on the Eyes met each other.

The first episode scored 1.043 percent in viewership rating (AGB Nielsen Media Research), high for a cable channel program. After the airing, viewers were quick to leave their positive feedbacks on the drama’s comment board and social service network by saying, “I was really absorbed in the drama”, “That’s the Lee Min Ki that we know. His scene was short but impressive”, and “It’s not just a drama for teens.”

‘Flower Boy Band’ to Offer More Than Just Flower Boys and Band Music

The title of the drama,Flower Boy Band,is plain and simple. The drama features band music, and flower boys. It has a specific target audience as the 2009 hit drama You’re Beautiful did. And the influence of pretty boys can′t be overlooked given the viewership ratings of its first episode and positive feedbacks from viewers.

But it would be a misjudgment if you viewed it as an ordinary teen drama relying simply on the male actors′ good looks (not that we have any problems with that). What sets the drama apart from other teen dramas is that it tries to graphically depict today’s teenagers and their troubles, such as school violence, the gap between the haves and the have-nots, and the gap between reality and dreams. The drama focuses on these aspects rather than looking at general themes like dream and music.

It may still be premature to evaluate the drama as it only has taken its first step. But we have high expectations for the next 15 episodes, as it deals with subject matters that appeal greatly to teens and those in their 20s.

Flower Boy Band airs every Monday and Tuesday at 11:00pm on tvN.
