We′re only a month into 2013, and already there are three girl groups who have popped out into the scene to try their hand at becoming the next big thing.

Purplay, Heart Rabbit Girls and BP Pop are the names of the new arrivals.

There are also more upcoming groups from such giant entertainment agencies as YG Entertainment, Polaris and Key East, showing that 2013 will again be a year of the idols.

The five member girl group BP Pop first made its debut with its single Today on January 16, and performed on TV for the first time through the January 24 broadcast of Mnet′s M Countdown. Rather than choose to go down the strong and sexy road like most other girl groups these days, BP Pop instead chose to emphasize their feminine selves.

Heart Rabbit Girls is another group aiming to build an image as a cute and feminine girl group. It will showcase a new method of promotion by using a line of character mascots to promote its retro disco single Round and Round.

Purplay will go the powerful performance route. The group is comprised of members who have been in training for over four years on average. It will release its debut single, a medium tempo electronic pop single titled Loving and Remembering, on February 7.

These new groups will be followed by some stiff competition soon, as YG Entertainment stands in line with its own girl group, which it has slowly been unveiling by releasing information about the members. Polaris Entertainment will debut another group holding MBC The Great Birth′s Kwon Ri Sae, and Key East will soon release its girl group, following a postponement in its schedule following the departure of Kwon Ri Sae.

Many officials in the scene acknowledged that the girl group market has been saturated since the girl group boom of 2011, but still they agreed that "as there are many trainees who have been preparing for their debuts since two or three years ago, there will again be as many new girl group debuts as last year."
