Uhm Tae Woong Tricks Jung Ryeo Won into Kissing Him Over...and Over...
Uhm Tae Woong insisted that he’s a great singer outside of his film.
The press preview and roundtable for the film Neverending Story took place on January 9 in Seoul. Director Jung Yong Joo and actors Uhm Tae Woong and Jung Ryeo Won attended the roundtable to talk about their film.
Uhm said this day to a question asking whether he sang the song in the film badly on purpose, “I thought the song should express a sincere heart, so I sang it clumsily. Was it too good? (laugh) Actually, I can sing better than that.”
Uhm took on the role of an unemployed man Dong Joo, whose days are numbered. After much ado, he falls in love with Song Kyung (Jung Ryeo Won), who, like him, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. In one scene, he sings out a love song for her on a beach. Because Uhm usually acts in strong roles, his actions were a new sight to see, but Uhm received favorable reviews for effectively expressing a heart fluttering toward its lover.
Uhm added, “The music director made it easy and pretty like we asked him. Nothing was too difficult. I just hoped we would have to keep retaking the scene where I had to kiss Jung Ryeo Won, but we got an OK in just three cuts.”
At this, Jung said, “Actually, we had to retake the kiss scene over and over. Later, I learned that he stroke up a deal with the camera director and did it on purpose.” She laughed and added, “Because there were a lot of love scenes with Uhm Tae Woong in the story, I wasn’t too angry about [retaking the kiss scenes].”
Neverending Story is a romantic comedy about how the lottery-addicted and unemployed Kang Dong Joo (Uhm Tae Woong) meets with the diary-addicted bank clerk Oh Song Kyung after being given just six months to live.
