2PM Announces Tokyo Dome Concert on New Year′s Day
2PM had some good news to give its fans on New Year′s Day, as it announced through Japanese media outlets that it would be holding a concert in Tokyo Dome.
Asahi Shimbun and and The Yomiuri reported on January 1 that 2PM will be holding its first Tokyo Dome concert Legend of 2PM in Tokyo Dome and that it will release an album titled Legend of 2PM in a full-page article. The papers are two of the top three prominent newspapers in Japan along with the Mainichi.
The news surprised local fans and even officials in the area, as it hasn′t been two years since 2PM made its official debut in the country in May 2011.
Starting with its debut showcase in 2010, 2PM has sold out concerts for its Jeff tour and its Arena tour. Its single albums Beautiful and Masquerade, released in 2012, both made it to the top of Tower Records′ charts and landed on second place in the Oricon Chart. The record set by both albums brought the Recording Industry Association of Japan to certify the group for gold, a status given to groups who sell more than 100,000 for two albums in a row.
Both of its single albums released in 2012 sold more than 100,000 copies in just two days, and Beautiful even became the single that sold the most copies at Tower Records′ Sibuya branch, the largest branch for Tower Records in the world, in history.
Legend of 2PM, the group′s second studio album to be released on February 13, will contain a total of 13 tracks including Beautiful and Masquerade. The bonus CD will also include solo tracks from the six individual members.
The group′s Tokyo Dome concert series to follow is set to take place from April 20 to 21, and is expected to draw a total of 110,000 people in total, with 55,000 for each concert. As 2PM is known to sell out most of its concerts, local officials are already looking forward to the hype that the ticket sales will bring.
A rep from JYP Entertainment told enews on January 1, "2013 will be a year in which 2PM, which has been active in Japan, will fly higher. 2PM′s Tokyo Dome concert will show an upgraded version of the beast-dol 2PM, in performances that can only take place at the Tokyo Dome. Please show us your love and support."
Before its Tokyo Dome concert, 2PM will perform in an Arena tour from January 11.
