The Big 3 Battle It Out In ‘K-Pop Star’
In the storm of audition programs that popped up in 2011, the latecomer K-Pop Star by SBS is succeeding in gathering a steady viewer group. K-Pop Star even grew to be a program with an approximate 10 percent viewership rating, big enough to threaten to dethrone MBC’s I Am A Singer. The program achieved this feat mostly with the help of its judges, Yang Hyun Suk, Park Jin Young and BoA.
Yang Hyun Suk, Park Jin Young and BoA are currently appearing as judges for K-Pop Star, which aired its first episode on December 4. Because the three are rarely seen on variety shows, and because they’re there to represent Korea’s three big agencies YG, JYP and SM, the fact that they would be appearing in the show made issues even before its first episode even aired.
K-Pop Star aired its fifth episode on January 1, and is continuing to see a steady rise in ratings and issues with every episode. The attitudes of the judges seemed to be enough to gain the trust of their viewers.
The three judges frequently go against each other on which contestants they should choose, and also didn’t hold back on the sincere advice they had to give to the aspiring singers. Though the three have all tasted what it feels like to be at the top of the pyramid, the advice they had to give were down to earth.
Moreover, in the case of Yang Hyun Suk and Park Jin Young, the two judges have produced giant groups who are currently leading the Korean wave, such as Big Bang, 2NE1, Wonder Girls and 2PM. Their every word taught the contestants what it takes to be global singers, and the way the contestants took up their advice to become better and better added to the enjoyment of the show.
The most entertaining bit of the show is, however, the way Yang Hyun Suk and Park Jin Young frequently go head to head.
On this issue, a rep for K-Pop Star told enews on January 2, “Unlike other audition programs, K-Pop Star gives contestants who produced great results the chance to choose among the three agencies, SM, YG and JYP. And so, I believe the judges Yang Hyun Suk, Park Jin Young and BoA are battling it out with their words. It’s like they’re trying to persuade the more talented figures to choose their own companies.”
If you were given the chance, which company would you choose to go to? SM, YG or JYP?
