[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 14 – From Dusk to Dawn
Did you read about the fire in our last recap?
With the fire truck on its way, Anthony marches into the burning building with Go Eun yelling for him to stop.
Inside, Anthony looks around and finally spots the old man, who has fallen unconscious.
More parts of the building start falling around them as the situation becomes even worse.
A giant piece falls inside, startling the staff members.
With his eyes full of fear, Director Goo tries to jump into the building, but is stopped by the other staff. He cries that he can’t watch people die on his set.
Finally, a siren is heard from the distance the fire truck finally arrives to rescue the day.
But before the firefighters can even get out of their truck, Anthony walks out with the old man on his back.
Everyone rushes towards them and Anthony insists that he’s fine. The old man is taken to the ambulance and Anthony realizes everyone’s staring at him with grim faces.
He jokes that they all look like they wished he didn’t come back.
He spots Go Eun, who cracks a smile of relief.
“You didn’t cry right?” asks smartass Anthony. Go Eun snaps back that all the smoke made her eyes tear. He smiles, as Mina can’t help but watch the both of them.
Dong Suk returns to say that the old man is in critical condition.
Anthony, Go Eun, and Director Goo look over the old man at the hospital, while Hyun Min and Mina fret back on set.
As the old man is taken to ICU, Anthony closely watches Director Goo’s face drop in guilt.
Anthony asks Director Goo what he’s thinking about and he replies, “That day five years ago…the extra who died on my set. That day keeps playing in my mind.”
Flashback to five years ago.
Anthony and Jin Wan arrive to see the extra’s body being put away as the family member blames Director Goo for the death.
Later Anthony addresses Director Goo about Anthony’s drama.
Even with Anthony becoming angered, Director Goo says that he’s not going to make dramas anymore.
So now we have to pray that the old man lives in order for Director Goo to continue working on The Morning of Gyeongseong.
Go Eun calls her mom to tell her that everyone liked the food.
Immediately off the bat, Go Eun’s mom realizes that something’s wrong. Go Eun covers it up, saying she’s tired and Go Eun’s mom tells her to take it easy.
Just then, Hyun Min enters the hospital to Go Eun’s surprise.
He asks how the old man is. Everyone’s just waiting for him to regain consciousness.
They sit in a hallway and Go Eun confesses that she never imagined Hyun Min to make his way over to the hospital.
“I had to come,” says Hyun Min.
Go Eun tries to send him to rest, but Hyun Min resists, saying it’s his fault, since he knew the old man was in the building, but didn’t do much to prevent the accident from happening.
Go Eun reassures him that it’s not his fault, but Hyun Min regrets not even giving a little bit of attention towards him. Go Eun says that the old man will wake up, so Hyun Min should stop beating himself and be Kang Hyun Min.
Hyun Min lifts his head. “Like me?”
“Yup. Korea’s top star, Kang Hyun Min!”
Hyun Min finally cracks a smile.
“Like Brad Pitt?”
This time, Go Eun sincerely replies, “Like Brad Pitt.”
Just as Hyun Min arrives in front of the ICU, the doctor comes out to inform them that the old man’s injuries aren’t severe and he gained consciousness.
Everyone lets out a sigh of relief as they go see the man.
As soon as he sees the Anthony, he starts to cry, thanking Anthony for saving his life. Anthony tells him to get well soon, since the old man needs to start preparing for the ninth project with Anthony.
Oh, this is so touching.
Go Eun steals a glance at Anthony and secretly smiles to herself.
Back at the cabin, Mina is still in worry. Then she finally receives the news that old man is okay.
Now that she can be relieved, she remembers how Go Eun yelled for Anthony to not go into the burning building and Anthony came out and spoke to Go Eun first.
At the hospital, Anthony tells Seok Hyun, one of the World Boys, to take care of the hospital bills and compensate the family. Seok Hyun nods then gives Anthony a thumb up for being extra awesome today.
Just then, a sudden pain jolts Anthony and he reaches for his eyes.
OMG HE’S GOING TO GO BLIND.
The pain subsides and Seok Hyun suggest Anthony to get his body checked, but Anthony says he’s fine. (OMG GO FOR THE CHECK UP!)
Before Anthony can think another second about the sudden pain, Director Goo thanks him for what he did.
Anthony sends Director Goo and Hyun Min to film the last scene.
Anthony remarks that Hyun Min has changed a lot, but Go Eun replies that he hasn’t changed as much as a certain jerk who suddenly became a kind hero.
Go Eun asks why Anthony jumped into the fire.
He replies that he just did.
“But I thought you sold your soul to the devil, Mr. Kim Bong Dal.”
“Kim Bong Dal went and bought back that soul that Anthony sold for a very cheap price.”
The last scene is filmed with no more accidents and to celebrate the wrap up, Hyun Min suggest that they all party – all expenses paid by the Korean Brad Pitt.
And it’s really Hyun Min this time - no sponsors during this party.
Anthony gives the toast and the party officially begins.
Hyun Min, Kwang Soo, and the Agency CEO liven up the mood by hilariously singing I’m a Man by Kim Jang Hoon.
Everyone gets up to cheer Hyun Min on. Anthony smiles, watching Go Eun in a good mood. Mina notices the small interaction and she’s momentarily upset in jealously.
She gets up to sit next to Anthony, offering him a drink, and this time, it’s Go Eun’s turn to feel the disappointment.
The staff moves the fun indoors as each group plays stupid drinking games together.
Dong Suk goes outside to find a bathroom, when he sees Eun Jin carrying a box of beer.
Before he can go help her, Kwang Soo steps up to help her.
Uh Oh~~ love triangle in the making.
Dong Suk runs to steal the thunder from Kwang Soo and the two fight over the box of beer.
Eun Jin tell them both to carry it as she head back into the cabin. Dong Suk leaves Kwang Soo to do the work and quickly chases after Eun Jin.
Still playing the 0-0-7 game, drunken Hyun Min makes his exit while humming the James Bond song/the intro to Super Junior’s Spy.
Meanwhile, Go Eun, Anthony, Mina, and Director Goo are having a quieter drinking party.
Director Goo tells Anthony and Go Eun to head home early to rest since within two days, they almost froze to death in the cold then jumped into the fire.
Hyun Min comes to crash the party and suggest they play ‘yaja time,’ which is when the ranks get flipped over and the youngest gets to speak informally to anyone older.
Anthony disagrees with the idea, but Go Eun shuts him up. Yaja time has started.
Hyun Min laughs like a child when Mina coldly stares and tells him to stop being a smartass.
Hyun Min becomes shocked since Mina is his nuna and that’s not how yaja time works.
Mina scoffs, asking Hyun Min how much longer he’s going to pretend being 27. BUUUURN.
It turns out Mina is younger than Hyun Min, and therefore, yaja time is in full effect.
Director Goo tells the children to settle down, when he’s interrupted by Anthony sternly saying, “Young Mook, you be quiet. The adults are speaking.”
There’s a moment of shock, before everyone, including Director Goo, all start laughing.
Anthony excuses himself to take a phone call. It’s CP Lee, checking if the accident was all taken care of. But the real purpose of the call was to inform Anthony that Woon Hyung has sent in his letter of resignation.
Although the resignation hasn’t been formally taken care of, Anthony still can’t hide his shock.
They decide to discuss it in detail when Anthony returns.
Woon Hyung returns to his seat, just as CP Lee hangs up the phone.
Sincerely, CP Lee asks Woon Hyung as a friend and a colleague to return to the station.
CP Lee informs Woon Hyung that as soon as he sent in his letter of resignation, Deputy Manager Kim has taken over, cutting programs, including the drama that Woon Hyung pushed, because although the content and viewer response are good, the ratings aren’t.
All the good programs that were on the schedule were canceled.
Although slightly taken aback, Woon Hyung changes the subject.
At the cabin, Go Eun steps out to go talk to Anthony, but Mina is one step faster.
She asks Anthony why he jumped into the fire, when he’s a man of statistics. Go Eun eavesdrops on the conversation.
“Someone pushed me from the back,” says Anthony, as Mina laughs.
But in reality, Anthony’s not sure himself.
Mina states that she wants to know more about Anthony.
He turns around, just in time to see Go Eun walking away from the scene.
Hyun Min steps out of a cabin to take a phone call from Bitna, who’s pissed that Hyun Min’s not back yet when the old man is fine now.
Hyun Min explains that it’s someone who he works with, but Bitna immaturely deals with the situation.
“You’re saying you can’t come because of some meaningless extra?”
That pushes Hyun Min’s button and he retorts back, telling her that she’s acting like a b*tch.
Bitna argues back that in all honesty, Hyun Min doesn’t want to come because he wants to drink all night with Mina (This girl has some severe trust issues).
In a burst of anger, Hyun Min yells that he is playing with Mina and he wants to play with Mina all night long.
Outraged, Bitna asks if he likes Mina.
Equally frustrated in anger, Hyun Min yells, “Yeah! I love her! I love her to death! I love you so much, Sung Mina!”
He hangs up on Bitna and turns around.
And who’s there?
Sung Mina, of course.
She calls him crazy as Hyun Min tries to explain, but Mina’s not listening. She warns him to climb trees that he’s capable of. She storms away as Hyun Min is left speechless.
In the morning, everyone gets ready to head back to Seoul. Go Eun looks for Anthony, who already left in the morning.
Mina reminds Go Eun that they’re heading down to Seoul together. And let the most awkward car ride begin.
After some random questions about why Anthony is a devil, Mina straightforwardly tells Go Eun that she likes Anthony.
Not only that, they used to love each other and are going to start dating.
Go Eun is shocked as Mina asks Go Eun for her help.
The car fills with silence.
dictator Deputy Manager Kim eats all the other directors for low ratings. He ends Woon Hyung’s show early and tries to replace it with one that will bring in the ratings.
“Listen carefully, number one is about ratings, and number two is about ratings!” declares Deputy Manager Kim.
Everyone in the meeting room scowls, even Deputy Manager Park.
Woon Hyung and his family are returning home after grocery shopping when Anthony stops by.
In private, Anthony asks why Woon Hyung is irresponsibly leaving his post, after declaring that he’ll make sure no more corruption happens in SBC.
Woon Hyung apologizes for not fulfilling his promise, and after Anthony says he won’t leave without a reason, Woon Hyung explains.
“I got the job because of the Jaekuk chairman. Nam Gook Hyun, my father.”
Anthony is shocked to hear the news, since he would have never guessed it.
Woon Hyung explains it’s probably why he hated Anthony so much, since Anthony seemed so much worse than his father.
“I lived, believing I didn’t have a father. I wanted to hide it until the end,” says Woon Hyung, getting up.
But Anthony doesn’t accept it as a reason, since he has done the same thing. “But I didn’t throw my family away to get to where I wanted.”
Anthony turns to Woon Hyung.
“You once told me that you want to get rid of people like me. But I’m still here, and you’re leaving.”
Anthony adds, “Before you leave, know this. All that will be left eventually dirty humans who will use all sorts of corrupted actions.”
As Anthony leaves, Woon Hyung sits on a bench to think.
On set, Director Goo is leading his actors through rehearsals.
He calls Hyun Min to look surprised and Hyun Min does an extremely good job.
But then he misses his line and is still surprised.
Bitna rushes in and cracks a few knuckles before slapping Hyun Min across the face in front of everyone.
“We’re done! Good luck with Sung Mina that you love so much!”
Everyone on set looks at each other, as Hyun Min puts on an ‘Oh crap’ face.
Bitna glares at Sung Mina for a second and storms out.
Hyun Min cautiously turns around to look at Mina, who is also glaring at him.
She mouths, “Idiot,” before running off. Director Goo calls a 5-minute break.
Hyun Min scolds Kwang Soo for not blocking Bitna.
“Even if I blocked her…do you think you wouldn’t have gotten hit?” He slowly backs up and runs away, as Hyun Min closes his eyes in physical and emotional pain.
Go Eun’s stuck at her studio, still thinking about what Mina said about Anthony.
She tries to get her mind back on writing when she receives a phone call. It’s Anthony calling about the contract signing.
Go Eun treats him coldly and tells him that she’s leaving her studio. Right this instant.
She hangs up on him, saying she doesn’t want to report everything to him.
Go Eun ends up at her mom’s restaurant…and like magic, Anthony is there, because he figured Go Eun has nowhere to go except the restaurant.
Sad, but true.
He hands her a pen to sign the contract, but she refuses.
He reminds her that he almost froze to death because of her, and she quickly stutters that she needs to read the contract first.
He gets up to leave, but then turns around and calls her name. “Don’t let me wait too long.” He smiles at her and Go Eun bangs her head on the contract in frustration
Kwang Soo disrupts Hyun Min’s beauty sleep with a newspaper. He made it on the front page with Mina because they love each other f’real.
Someone on set must have spilled the news to a reporter and now it’s all out.
“Oh my mother, father,” says Hyun Min. On the other side, Mina is also speechless.
She insists that Hyun Min spilled the news because she wouldn’t like him back.
“That idiot is fully capable of doing this,” says Mina to her manager. “You don’t know it, but he’s so deeply in love with me.” *sigh*
Jin Wan is informed that Mina has a scandal and Jin Wan freaks out, asking who it is. He asks if it’s Anthony, but when it’s just Hyun Min, he loses interest.
The World Boys are also reading the news, as Dong Suk starts to explain what happened on set, when Anthony comes in.
The World Boys inform him of what’s going on, and Anthony is surprised.
Wearing sunglasses and pulling his scarf to hide his face, Hyun Min walks into a café, where Mina is waiting, also with sunglasses and covering her face with her jacket.
Why not just announce that you two are there?
After the waitress takes their order, Hyun Min scoots next to Mina to argue that it wasn’t he, who spread the rumor.
Pulling his scarf tightly, Mina gives him a firm warning to take down all the articles since not even a speck of her likes Hyun Min.
From far away, the action makes it appear as if the two dumb stars are making out.
The waitress returns with their drinks, and before leaving, she encourages Hyun Min and Mina to continue their love!
Hyun Min and Mina are left completely speechless.
CP Lee informs Deputy Manager Kim about the scandal and Deputy Manager Kim only thinks it’ll help the ratings.
At the meeting, Deputy Manager Kim asks why Woon Hyung’s drama hasn’t been canceled yet and throws a fit.
At that exact moment, Woon Hyung enters the room and announces that the station should always keep promises with the viewers, regardless of ratings.
Deputy Manager Kim arrogantly says Woon Hyung shouldn’t even be in the room, since he quit, but then Woon Hyung announces that he just came back from talking with the Chairman. He’s the chief director again.
Everyone in the room smiles in relief as Woon Hyung thanks Deputy Manager Kim for the hard work as the sub. Deputy Manager Kim leaves the room in embarrassment.
He apologizes for not standing firm in his post and then gives a pep talk that with the power they have, they must use it righteously or else it’s just violence against the viewers.
Everyone nods in agreement as the meeting begins.
On his way home, Anthony receives a call from Woon Hyung, asking about the accident.
Anthony’s amused that someone who is no longer part of the project would ask about it.
“Listen carefully. I’m asking as the Chief Director of the drama department.”
Anthony smiles and answers him back.
Meanwhile, Woon Hyung has a visitor.
The Chairman comes into the office, asking why Woon Hyung changed his mind about the position.
Woon Hyung explains although he rose to the position because of his father, he will do his best to make sure no one else uses corruption to get any further.
The Chairman mentions that times are changing – it may be possible.
“I’ll keep watch to see if you or the world changes.”
Go Eun’s on her way back home when she sees a man on the street selling sweet potatoes. She’s reminded of what she said about the sweet potatoes while freezing in the truck with Anthony.
She smiles at the memory, but doesn’t buy any sweet potatoes.
She returns home, beating herself to focus on the drama rather than useless things…like Anthony.
Just as she encourages herself to write, there’s a knock at the door. It’s Anthony, and all the effort to forget about him disappears.
Anthony reminds her about the contract, but the real reason is to give her a bag of warm sweet potatoes.
“You said you wanted them,” says Anthony, touching Go Eun’s heart. He adds that it’s not to bribe her into signing the contract, but just because the sweet potato cart was there and he remembered.
Way to put a girl into deeper confusion.
Anthony stands at the rooftop, looking down on Go Eun’s studio. At the same time, Go Eun stares at the bag of sweet potatoes as all these conflicting memories of Anthony and Mina pass by her head.
She grabs the sweet potatoes and head out. Go Eun marches onto the roof and returns the bag of sweet potatoes to Anthony.
“Why are you confusing people?” asks Go Eun. Anthony doesn’t understand. “You’re dating Sung Mina, but why are you doing this to me?”
Anthony laughs, asking who is dating Sung Mina. With a twinkle in his eye, he tells her to stop misinterpreting everything since he doesn’t feel that way for anyone. (LIES!!)
Go Eun’s caught off guard and tries to explain her story, when Anthony asks, “If I buy sweet potatoes for someone, then does that mean I like them? What’s confusing you?”
Go Eun looks down, stuttering once more.
“I… was confused…on whether or not they were from China or ..Korea…”
Anthony watches her with a smile dancing around his lips as he steps closer.
As Go Eun becomes surprised as the close distance, Anthony asks, “Do you like me by any chance?”
When Go Eun doesn’t reply, Anthony scoffs, saying there’s no way.
He begins to walk away, when Go Eun calls him back.
He turns around and they stare into each other’s eyes for a really long time.
And that’s how the episode wraps up.
Ughhhh the ending of this episode!
It’s somewhat anticlimactic, as it’s not really a cliffhanger, since Go Eun’s not going to tell him that she actually does like him, but we’re still dying inside, just waiting for one of them to confess their feelings.
Just like Go Eun, we’re often caught off-guard when we see Anthony smiling so often. He must love her by this point, right? Wishful thinking~
As for Hyun Min and Mina, we love how things played out. They’re destined to be together anyways.
And now that annoying Bitna is out of the picture and the scandal in full effect, Hyun Min and Mina will be forced to become closer (maybe sign a dating contract to keep the popularity up) and they’ll end up falling in love.
Then Anthony won’t have Mina getting in the way of getting his romance on with Go Eun, because that’s really all we’re waiting for.
We’re glad that Woon Hyung’s back in the picture, although, we never doubted for a second that he would exit completely.
We have so many warm feelings for this episode, because Anthony’s just been such an encouraging and supportive guy all throughout, whether it be for the old man or Woon Hyung. And then there’s Go Eun.
We love the transformation going within Anthony, and Hyun Min as well. They’re all maturing and realizing that there are people around them, other than themselves, and it makes us so happy and mushy inside.
Please let these heartwarming, heart-fluttering moments continue!
