[Concert Review] B1A4 Brings Drama and Goes Drag in Sold-Out Show
B1A4 is barely two years old in idol years, but the boys took to the stage like seasoned pros at their first-ever exclusive concert in Seoul.
The idol group performed for a lively packed house on the first day of its two-day BABA B1A4 concert series, held at the SK Olympic Handball Stadium in Seoul’s Olympic Park, on December 8.
B1A4 wasted no time, kicking off the show with high energy performances of Beautiful Target, Bling Girl and new track In the Air to ear-deafening screams.
The boys kept the momentum going with Chu Chu Chu, Because of You and If before slowing it down with a series of smooth songs, including comeback single Try to Walk, I Only Learned Bad Things and This Time is Over.
If live performances of their hit songs as well as tracks from latest album In the Wind were expected, the boys also had a few surprises up their sleeves for the fans.
From the members’ spurts of aegyo and adorable acting in a special music drama, prepared especially for the concert, to the boys’ drag cover, wigs and all, of Girls’ Generation (SNSD)’s Genie, the B1A4 members were all about showing fans different sides to themselves .
The music drama, in particular, served to weave the members’ solo stages, which highlighted the boys’ individual talents, into one cohesive ‘show within a show.’
San Deul kicked off the set with an energetic cover of Panic’s Left Handed before CNU slipped into a velvet blazer and stole the spotlight with a sexy rendition of Wheesung’s With Me.
Baro performed his self-composed and self-penned song Just the Two of Us before CNU rejoined the rapper onstage for a special performance of unreleased hip hop track On Fire.
Gong Chan then followed with a dancing-in-the-rain inspired performance of unreleased track I Want to Sing With You before leader Jin Young drove the ladies wild with solo track Be My Girl from the group’s new album.
The SNSD cover was the fulfillment of a promise the B1A4 members previously made to fans to either dress in drag or to sing and dance with water pouring down on them.
Although nuna fans may have preferred the latter, the crowd of what seemed to be mostly middle to high school fans squealed at the B1A4 members’ every hair flip and leg lift.
The fan service didn’t end there, however, as one lucky fan from the audience was called up on stage to be showered with gifts from the boys, from flowers and a teddy bear to a serenade.
While the concert was a memorable show for the fans in attendance, the boys said it was a moment that they too would never forget.
After another high energy set that included performances of hit Baby Goodnight and O.K., it was time for the members’ closing remarks.
B1A4’s youngest member Gong Chan said, “I have a pretty good memory. I’m going to remember everyone who came.”
The members couldn’t hold back their tears as they said a few final words to the fans.
“I’m happy because I was able to realize my dream,” said CNU, while leader Jin Young said between tears, “It feels like a dream.”
In light of the group’s achievements, the B1A4 members remained humble, and if the concert is any indication, we don’t think the boys will be waking up from this dream any time soon.
