Hwang Shin Hye on Acting as a Mother
Hwang Shin Hye opened up on how she felt to act as the mother of grown-up children.
Hwang attended the press conference for Channel A’s Bachelor’s Vegetable Store, held on December 14 in Seoul.
Hwang said, “I’ve taken on the role of being the mother with young children, but this is the first time I’ll be the mother of adults. Because I’ve prepared a lot [for the role], I actually feel comfortable with it.”
Hwang will be taking on the role of Choi Kang Sun, who has a split personality. After she loses her daughter, Mok Ga On, in an accident, she tries to make the orphan Jin Jin Sim (Wang Ji Hye) act like her daughter, an attempt which becomes the cause of conflict between the two roles.
About Kang Sun, Hwang said, “Sometimes I scare myself when I act in the role of this mother who tries to make her daughter’s friend live a different life as her daughter. At times I understand her, but when I keep watching Kang Sun and her scary acts, I sometimes question whether someone could really do things like this.”
“Because Kang Sun is a sad character with complicated and sad emotions in every scene, it’s hard for me to get out all those emotions,” she added. “Since I have to cry and scream for every scene, I’m exhausted after shoots.”
Hwang’s fellow actors praised Hwang for her emotional acting skills. Wang Ji Hye, said, “Especially when we’re at script reading sessions, she acts the scenes out with all her heart, and she pours out the emotions again on set. I’m thankful to be receiving that energy, and she’s a big help in acting.”
Bachelor’s Vegetable Store is about the work, dreams and love of youth who try to work hard with what is given them. The drama will air its first episode on December 21.
