More lies spill over and frustration sweeps us away as douchebags get douchier and empty promises get emptier (Is that even possible?).

But Anthony Kim gets what he wants and that’s the most important thing...right?

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

Woon Hyung stares at Anthony, slightly shocked that Anthony has taken a knee.

Anthony begs, laying his pride on the ground, asking for Woon Hyung to give him the November drama slot.

Woon Hyung scoffs that the almighty Anthony has fallen. Anthony doesn′t care since this is something that he needs - desperately.

We almost feel bad for Anthony as he begs Woon Hyung with a miserable puppy face, but then we remember that Woon Hyung has been and is the good guy in this drama.

Meanwhile, Jin Wan informs writer Jung Hong Joo to prepare the script for The Elegant Revenge 2, which will start broadcasting in November.

Aaaaand we’re back to square one.

Go Eun stands in the lobby of the SBC station, staring at a writing competition poster on the wall. She becomes determined to show everyone that she can make it without their help.

She runs into Dong Suk, who tells Go Eun the bad news about the November slot. Just then, an angry Anthony comes out to the lobby. They meet eyes, but say nothing as he walks away.

Just like a child, Hyun Min plays a video game, even completing the experience with personal sound effects, when the phone rings.

Jaekuk CEO Oh, that Bastard, says caller ID.

Hyun Min is annoyed but takes the call.

Hyun Min repeats all the nasty things Jin Wan said about him, but then Jin Wan tries to sweet talk him and eventually drops the bomb about the drama slot change.

Hyun Min freezes at the sudden news but refuses to believe Jin Wan. He hangs up the phone then goes to find out if the news is true or not.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

Hyun Min ends up calling Anthony, demanding to know what′s happening.

Anthony flat out tells Hyun Min the truth.

"But in 48 hours, our drama will be back in the November slot.”

How? With ways that only Anthony knows.

Hyun Min loses his temper, but Anthony reminds Hyun Min that he’s Anthony, the one who was destroyed and still made it alive in the drama world. He assures Hyun Min that after 48 hours, it’ll just be him, Hyun Min, and The Morning of Gyeongseong left standing.

With the little remaining trust he has in Anthony, Hyun Min decides to wait.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

Anthony stands outside someone’s house, but the person doesn’t want to see Anthony. Anthony says he′ll stay until the gates open.

Persistence allows Anthony inside to be greeted by Deputy Manager Kim, the man who bitterly lost the chief director spot.

The first thing Anthony does is to side with Deputy Manager Kim and insist that Deputy Manager Kim will be on Anthony’s side soon. Anthony sweet talks Deputy Manager Kim into pushing The Morning of Gyeongseong in order to push Woon Hyung out of the chief director position – since, after all, it was Deputy Manager’s place in the first place.

After persuading the deputy manager, Anthony heads home, telling Dong Suk that the only to win this battle is fight fire with fire, then when the enemy is weak, suffocate him.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

The next day at the station, Deputy Manager Kim starts talking to all the managing directors, as they head into a meeting with Woon Hyung.

When Woon Hyung′s just about ready to pass The Elegant Revenge 2 as November’s drama, one by one, the managing directors all oppose the decision. When Woon Hyung doesn’t let the decision turn over, the directors all get up and leave the metting.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

Woon Hyung calls Deputy Manager Kim one-on-one to question his reasoning for suddenly having a change of heart for The Morning of Gyeongseong.

Despite threats, Woon Hyung stands his ground as chief director and decides to pass The Elegant Revenge 2 as the November drama for SBC.

At nightfall, Anthony arrives at a fancy restaurant, where he is introduced to a very important-looking man. They talk a bit about what Anthony does, as Anthony pours the man a drink.

The man seems to approve of Anthony’s confidence.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

Meanwhile, Hyun Min nervously looks at the clock, as Anthony continues to not answer his phone call. Hyun Min’s agency CEO tells him to give up and just go back to Jin Wan before it’s too late.

But there’s two hours left and Hyun Min says he’ll give Anthony those two hours before heading over to Jaekuk Productions.

“But, if anyone’s kneeling down, you are,” Hyun Min says, pointing to the agency CEO.

Dramatic music beings to roar as Anthony walks down the aisle of a hallway.

Woon Hyung is just about ready to finalize the November drama list, when he receives a phone call. The CEO wants to meet him immediately.

In a twist of events, the CEO turns out to be that very important man Anthony met the night before. And of course Anthony is there to witness Woon Hyung′s grim face at seeing him sitting with the CEO.

Anthony grins smugly.

How did he do it? We have no idea.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

The CEO mentions that Anthony told him that Woon Hyung liked Anthony’s project – which is technically not a lie – and orders Woon Hyung to give Anthony the November slot, especially since the majority of the directors do not agree with Woon Hyung′s decision.

Woon Hyung continues to fight, but the CEO puts his foot down and Woon Hyung is forced to raise the white flag.

Woon Hyung′s pissed off at Anthony’s dirty ways of getting what he wants and takes him to the roof.

Just as we hoped for, Woon Hyung punches Anthony in the gut after Anthony tells Woon Hyung to just give up the fight.

“Remember this. I’m only approving this because The Morning of Gyeongseong is too good to throw out,” says Woon Hyung.

Anthony doesn’t even hesitate before saying, “Remember this. We’re now on the same boat.”

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

Woon Hyung mentions that this boat isn’t Anthony’s, but Anthony simply replies, “To each his own.”

Before he leaves, Anthony tells Woon Hyung that he’s bringing Go Eun back as a writer, because no one can write this drama as well as she can. Good to know that in the back of Anthony′s mind, Go Eun was always there.

The approval is given and President Watanabe sends Anthony the money.
Everyone at World Productions cheer as the first installment arrives in their account.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

Meanwhile, Hyun Min and his girlfriend, Bitna with the super annoying raspy voice are at a car dealership, getting a new car for Bitna.

Hyun Min’s still waiting for Anthony, when he finds out that the car Bitna wants is 62,300,000 won. He gasps silently at the steep price, but before Bitna can consider choosing this car, Hyun Min shuts the car dealer up because the car is too cheap.

“I’m getting this car for you, but this price makes my love seem cheap! Let’s look at other cars.”

Bitna, the complete airhead now, whimpers that Hyun Min’s love can’t be cheap and gets out of the car to look around.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

When she’s gone, Hyun Min sighs in relief before asking his manager if Anthony contacted him. Nope. Nada. Nothing.

He needs the money because he′s not the type of man who′ll buy items in multiple installments.

Starting to panic, Hyun Min begins to curse Anthony’s name, when he receives a text message from his bank. Two billion won has been deposited into his account.

Suddenly the panicky Hyun Min is gone and a thick shade of arrogance slides in place. As if he has all the money in the world, he prances over to Bitna to buy the car of her dreams.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

Back in Jaekuk Productions, Jin Wan gets the news, but he insists that the war is not over yet.

“The winner isn’t the one laughing last. The last one laughing is the winner. The game is not over.”

But there’s sunshine and rainbows over at World Productions as Dong Suk announces that all accounts and bills have been paid, AND he’s even retrieved Anthony’s car, which Anthony had to give up as a security.

Anthony grabs his old car keys as triumphant music plays. Anthony walks to his beloved car and takes her for a spin as he goes to retrieve his writer.

When he arrives at Go Eun’s mother’s restaurant, Go Eun’s not there because she’s been sent to the countryside to write her script. She even just called to brag that the company reserved her a nice room.

Anthony realizes the lie and plays along.

When Go Eun’s mother goes into the kitchen to turn off the stove, Anthony quickly memorizes the last number that called Go Eun’s mother and leaves without saying good-bye.

He calls the pension where Go Eun′s staying at and asks for the address.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

Go Eun’s staying by the beach, breathing in the fresh air as she works on her piece for the drama contest.

She stands by the pier, enjoying the wind and the moment, when the voice she doesn’t want to hear makes her choke on the air.

It’s Anthony.

He steps forward and Go Eun warns him not to get close, but he continues to step forward, making her back up.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

He informs her that he needs her back for the scripts, but Go Eun yells, asking what kind of trickery he’s planning now, but before she can finish her sentence, she slips off the pier and falls into the water

Anthony takes off his outer coat and jumps in without hesitation.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

The village people surround the pier, as Go Eun is pumping Anthony’s chest. pfft.

Go Eun curses the unconscious Anthony for jumping into the water when he doesn’t even know how to swim. Well..at least he tried to be a good person?

Anthony wakes up hours later to find himself in a small hospital. He asks the nurse where Go Eun is and the nurse Anthony that she went home after calling 911.

Anthony appears in front of Go Eun to say that he needs her. “You’re the writer for The Morning of Gyeongseong, so you have to come back.”

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

But Go Eun’s skeptical of Anthony’s tricks and questions why her.

Anthony replies that the chief director ordered him to return Go Eun to her rightful place – Lies.

Go Eun knows and asks for the real reason why.

“Where else can I find a cheap writer like you?”

Dumb Anthony. Why does he always have to walk around in circles with her?

He gives her a day to think about it, but Go Eun calls out. “So…when is the broadcast date?”

A small smile of victory is painted on Anthony’s face.

They hop into Anthony’s luxurious car and head back to Seoul.

Go Eun asks if Anthony was worried about her to jump into the water, and Anthony bitter replies, “I slipped.”

Before Go Eun knows it, they’ve already returned to Seoul.
Anthony tells Go Eun to rest up and come into the office by two.

Meanwhile, Jin Wan informs his assistant that Go Eun has been reinstated as writer and that it′s starting.

"What’s starting?” the assistant asks.
Turning an evil eye, Jin Wan replies, “The crack.”

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

At the same time, Hyun Min gets the news that Go Eun’s back as the main writer.

Suddenly bad memories float into Hyun Min’s head, mostly of Go Eun yelling, beating up some kids, and glaring at Hyun Min.

Hyun Min starts freaking out that Go Eun will make him suffer in the drama for dragging her out of his house and being a bystander when she was being attacked by teenagers.

His manager and agency CEO don’t think Go Eun will, but Hyun Min exaggerates the situation as if his career is now doomed.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

...which is why Hyun Min sends a text message with a picture of giant flower bouquet, congratulating Go Eun on her return.

“You have no idea how happy I was to hear that you were back! Lee Go Eun, fighting!”

Back at home, Hyun Min shakes in nervousness, insisting that Go Eun’s out to get him. “See? She didn’t even reply yet!” Give her a sec, drama queen.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

He whines to his manager when he finally receives a reply.

Go Eun thanks him for the flower and promises to work hard with him, despite all the craziness that has happened so far.

The wave of fear is quickly replaced with glee as Hyun Min starts laughing. “I told you! This woman isn’t petty at all!”

We bet Hyun Min is blood type A.

Go Eun gets off at her bus stop, when she runs into Jin Wan, who was just in the area. He congratulates her on getting the drama slot and hopes she doesn’t think he hated her writing.

"We were always a little disappointed that we couldn’t produce The Morning of Gyeongseong at Jaekuk.”

Go Eun continues to smile awkwardly, as Jin Wan asks for an opportunity for Jaekuk to work with her. As she leaves, the fake smile on Jin Wan’s face fades away.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

Go Eun stands in front of the World Productions door, feeling nervous about returning. She opens the door and is immediately met with confetti as the staff members all welcome her back.

But Anthony the party pooper cuts the celebrations short and jumps right into a meeting about her scripts.

Anthony informs Go Eun that in order to meet the schedule, they need to edit the scripts like crazy. This is news to Go Eun, especially since Anthony has said he likes the scripts.

“It’s a nice and refreshing story, but….” Anthony looks at Go Eun. “It won’t make money.”

He begins to explain that in order to get the ratings and the money, the story has to change into a melodrama. And while he’s at it, he says they must change the protagonist into a millionaire.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

Go Eun is absolutely appalled by Anthony’s changes to a stereotypical drama story.

Anthony hates the sad ending where the protagonist dies and says it must be changed so that he’s reborn into present time. “Being in present time also gives good opportunities to include some PPL.” In fact, he suggest they just change the entire genre of the drama.

Go Eun asks Anthony to step out for a second.

Please punch him in the face. He needs a good punching just about now.

Go Eun asks why Anthony’s had a change of heart, but Anthony replies that’s exactly what he didn’t have. He’s just been waiting until the November slot was confirmed before bringing it up.

Growing angry by the second, Go Eun refuses to let Anthony destroy her work, but Anthony replies, “I have no intentions to make your work into a masterpiece.”

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

Go Eun’s had it with Anthony’s money-obsessed greed and blows up at him, screaming that a drama is not about money.

Anthony yells back that a drama is exactly that, spilling all the statistics and monetary value that a drama holds. Go Eun whispers that he’s crazy.

“I am crazy,” replies Anthony. “I’m going to be successful again in front of all of them and rise as the lord of dramas again and stomp everyone at my feet.”

Go Eun walks away, calling him a bastard.

She then takes her frustrations to the last person we would run to – Hyun Min.

She complains about everything Anthony wanted to change, as Hyun Min attentively listen, but judging from the expression on his face, he doesn’t seem to find it as disgusting as Go Eun does.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

“That actually sounds really good,” says Hyun Min.

As expected, Hyun Min links the drama to more commercials that’ll come his way with each of the changes Anthony mentioned. More commercials, more money.

As Hyun Min talks more and more, the disgust on Go Eun’s face grows, realizing that Hyun Min is just another puppet living in the drama world.

She yells at him as she leaves.

Hyun Min still doesn’t get why Go Eun got angry, but his manager says he really likes the original script. Even his older sister did.

Hyun Min shoots him a glare.

“If you want to be your sister’s manager, go ahead. You don’t have to be mine.” Oh, you airhead. You deserve some punches too.

Anthony looks over to Go Eun’s empty desk, as Go Eun’s back at where she goes to think - her mom′s restaurant. But the problem′s so severe that she ends up burning the fish.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

Meanwhile, Jin Wan’s talking to someone on the phone. He tells the person on the other line good job and hangs up to inform his assistant that Go Eun’s on strike. The assistant asks how Jin Wan knows so much about Anthony.

“Because I’ve planted a spy in that office.”

Just then, Dong Suk enters World Productions with a stone face.
NO!!! Not trustworthy Dong Suk!!! He can’t be the spy!!

Not willing to just sit in his office and watch his drama whirl into the drain, Anthony gets up and heads over to the fish restaurant.

He asks Go Eun to trust him one more time.

We’re completely on Go Eun’s side when she asks how she can trust a guy who’s already planned on betraying her in the first place.

He insists that everything is for ‘their’ project.

“Our project? You mean your project,” replies Go Eun. “Your project that’ll become the ultimate weapon for Anthony to rise as the lord of the dramas again.”

Anthony calmly states that when he was her age, he also thought he was always right but it always turned out to be the opposite.

“I’ll be waiting for you, but don’t come too late.”

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

That night, Go Eun twists and turns in bed. She finally asks if her mom also thought she was completely right when she was Go Eun’s age. Go Eun’s mother answers of course.

“Sometimes you’re right and sometimes you’re wrong. I don’t know why I thought I was so right,” says Mom. “Looking back, I regret things so much.”

She tells Go Eun that you never know what will happen, even if you follow your instincts.

Hearing her mom’s opinion, Go Eun heads back to World Productions. She runs into Dong Suk on the way in, and he quickly hides his phone as he’s shocked to see her.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

Go Eun heads inside, only to find Anthony sitting with another writer, the writer who will be rewriting all the changes to Go Eun’s original scripts.

He introduces her as Go Eun’s partner and hopes that they can work together to create a good drama.

....we don’t want to be so violent, but somebody please punch Anthony in the face.

With complete and utter disbelief, Go Eun manages to tell Anthony that he’s not even human, before running out of the office in anger.

Perfectly on time, it begins to pour.

Jin Wan whispers that it’s about time to start, just as the phone rings.

He’s informed about the second writer, as a figure stands outside of World Productions.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

The camera pans up from the feet and the spy is…..NOT DONG SUK (oh thank goodness), but Hee Jae, the youngest on the team. Ugh, why is the adorable maknae evil?

Just then, Dong Suk comes out to meet Hee Jae, worried that Hee Jae would get wet in the rain. Oh, this breaks our hearts so bad. We’re sorry we ever doubted you, Dong Suk.

Go Eun trudges outside in the rain, not even bothering with it.
Jin Wan creepily follows after her in his car.

The place where Go Eun ends up is Writer Jung’s house.
“I suddenly thought about you,” whimpers Go Eun.

Go Eun apologizes to Writer Jung, not really understanding what it means to change someone’s writing. Writer Jung also apologizes for not checking facts before destroying Go Eun’s career.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

Go Eun starts to cry as she spills everything Anthony has done to her.

Writer Jung is outraged, especially since she’s read Go Eun’s script and is quite impressed.

The doorbell rings and it’s creepy ol’ Jin Wan with his fake smile on. He pretends to be courteous and leaves quickly, after showing his face to Go Eun.

Writer Jung tells Go Eun to protect her writing and don’t let a conman like Anthony step on her.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

It’s still raining when Go Eun leaves Writer Jung’s apartment.

As she turns to open her umbrella, a black umbrella swoops above her. It’s Jin Wan. He offers her a ride and she takes it.

After hearing the full story from Go Eun (as if he didn’t know already), Jin Wan sympathizes with Go Eun saying her writing is too good to be changed. Then he suggests that she just break the writer’s contract with him. He promises to help her.

We’re sitting here screaming ′don’t do it′ as Go Eun actually thinks about the possibility.

At World Productions, Anthony is still discussing changes with the new writer. He approves, but the writer worries that Go Eun won’t. “Don’t worry about her. Leave her to me,”

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

The phone rings. It’s Go Eun.

She informs Anthony that she’s quitting as the writer. She promises to pay the penalty for the breach of contract, when Anthony suddenly realizes that Go Eun’s not saying this on her own.

“Are you with Oh Jin Wan?”

Go Eun looks up, as Jin Wan offers her a cup of tea at his office. She hangs up the phone.

Anthony calls Go Eun, but no response.

He hops into his car and speeds off to Jaekuk Productions as Jin Wan′s assistant asks Jin Wan in private if he’s really willing to pay for Go Eun’s penalty fee.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

“How can we throw away this opportunity for just that much?” asks Jin Wan. “We’ll bring the story to our side, then after rolling her around for a little bit, we’ll throw Go Eun away.” He plans on assigning a veteran writer to the story and taking Go Eun out.

As Anthony continues to rush over, Go Eun reads over her contract from Jin Wan.

Just as she’s about to sign it, Anthony rushes in, fighting against the group of people trying to stop him.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

He yells at Go Eun not to sign.

Go Eun looks at him in surprise, then her face becomes cold and she looks down at the contract, appearing like she’s about to sign it...and it ends.

Thoughts

Why are all the drama affiliated people such scumbags??

Why is everyone out to screw Go Eun over? Or is Go Eun too innocent, thinking that the world is beautiful place full of unicorns that poop out rainbows?

Just like Go Eun, we’ve had it up to here with Anthony.

He is such a disgusting person, who demands for attention – sometimes even begging for it – but when attention and, more importantly, trust are given, he just forgets such things existed because they conflicts with his statistics.

[Recap: The King of Dramas] Episode 5 – The Counterattack of the Defeated

As much as we hate the fact that Go Eun might be signing her life away to the devil, we kind of got excited in the last scene to see Anthony panicking. It was relieving because he actually didn’t have Go Eun leaving him calculated out already and therefore he didn’t really have a backup plan except to storm into Jin Wan’s office and yell at her.

We want to say that this might be the moment when he realizes he was taking Go Eun for granted and start changing to be a better person, but we thought that before in the earlier episodes but got screwed over by Anthony too many times that we don’t even want to have any expectations for Anthony to grow a heart.

He’s the boy who cried wolf, and the ending scene is when the wolf arrives to determine if Anthony dies or not – figuratively and literally.

Whether the wolf will bite or not, we will have to wait until the next episode.
