Who knew that Kim Ju Hyuk was such a funny man?

Kim was the first guest for the first episode of tvN’s Saturday Night Live Korea (SNLK), which aired on December 3. The actor definitely must have felt the pressure, as the show would be aired live, and it was also SNLK′s first episode.

Kim didn’t hold back from the start. He appeared in almost every scene in the 67 minutes the show aired, and performed a string of slapstick, parody and satire gags.

Unlike the calm image he put on for his dramas and films, he transformed to a natural comedian. He became a member of the Navi from Avatar, a gay fashion designer, and even Steve Jobs at one point to deliver a new type of fresh comedy.

Reactions were explosive. Online community websites and social service networks were flooded with posts about SNLK. Most were positive about Kim’s new image and the quality of the show.

Many are saying that Kim’s professional mindset contributed to the success of the show.

According to the producers, Kim didn’t schedule any other events during the week he prepared for the show, and he participated in all rehearsals with the cast members to make sure the sketches flowed smoothly. He even met with the director and scriptwriter of SNLK, Jang Jin, to make suggestions for changing the script.

A rep for SNLK told enews on December 6, “While he rehearsed, Kim Ju Hyuk kept editing the script, because he wanted something stronger. Director Jang Jin was concerned on whether it wouldn’t be too strong, but Kim Ju Hyuk said if he’s going to be funny, he should do it properly.”

The rep added, “He was very nervous because it was the first broadcast, but I believe the thorough preparations brought on a great result.”

Kim’s devotion let SNLK launch successfully. Now viewers are wondering what the next guest will do to continue the success of the program.

The day’s broadcast recorded an average of 1% viewership ratings, and peaked at 2.014% (AGB Nielsen Media Research, households with cable, sum of tvN and Super Action channels).
