Lalasweet, a popular female duo in the Hongdae indie scene, released its first studio album bittersweet online on November 29.

The first single cut Where Are We Now rose to the higher ranks on Melon, Bugs and Mnet, and on Naver Music, all 11 songs made it to the live charts.

The success has all the more meaning because IU, the ‘Nation’s little sister’, released her album on the same day, covering the high ranks of all music charts with her songs.

Social network services such as Twitter continued to turn out praise on Lalasweet’s album. The official webpage of lalasweet, on which a video of the duo working on its album was posted, even went down for a short while because so many visitors swarmed the site.

Lalasweet first became known through the MBC Campus Song Festival in 2008, when it won the Silver Award with My Old Orange Tree, and became one of the representative female duos of Hongdae with numerous performances and its participation in many compilation albums.

The album bittersweet was born after three years of endless effort, and was produced by the two members themselves. It managed to capture a bold band sound and dramatic melody without losing the emotions characteristic of female artists and the songs’ sensitive lyrics.
