This week, Lee Seung Gi announced his comeback to the small screen alongside another popular idol star as his lady counterpart, while JYP Entertainment revealed Nichkhun would be resuming his activities with 2PM.

Unfortunately in the same week, Cool’s Kim Sung Soo and many other stars suffered a huge shock upon learning the singer’s ex-wife was stabbed to death in a bar, while Byul also suffered the loss of her father merely a month before her official wedding with Haha.

1. Lee Seung Gi Makes a Return to the Small Screen

Since finishing his drama, The King 2Hearts back in May, Lee Seung Gi has remained largely quiet, focusing mostly on his studies.

While rumors have begun swirling in recent weeks of the beloved star’s involvement in everything from coming on board as MC of a new variety show to movie roles, it was finally revealed that the entertainer has decided to make his return to the small screen through a new television drama.

Appearing in his first historic drama, the fantasy fusion tale stars Lee Seung Gi as a half human-half beast role in the upcoming Googaeu Suh.

Rumor has it, miss A’s Suzy is in final talks to join Lee Seung Gi as his counterpart, further raising hype for the drama.

2. Nichkhun Announces Return to Activities with 2PM

After months of self-reflection, 2PM’s Nichkhun first signaled his return by joining the cast for an upcoming MBC volunteer program.

Fans were further delighted when it was revealed Nichkhun would resume activities with his fellow 2PM members for their upcoming Shanghai concert as well as their new Japanese single release and promotion.

Nichkhun and 2PM fans have welcomed the singer back with open arms, but it remains to be seen how the rest of the general public will receive his return.

3. Park Jin Young Revealed to Make the Most Money Off of Royalties

He’s a singer, entrepreneur, actor and of course, a renowned composer, but Park Jin Young is also one wealthy man thanks to his music writing.

A report this week from the Korean Music Copyright Association revealed a list of the highest royalty earners in Korea. According to its updated information, Park Jin Young was the highest royalty earner for 2011, earning an estimated 1.37 billion won from all the tracks he has composed and written.

Park Jin Young managed to best famed composer Cho Young Soo, who has been the number one earner for the previous four years.

Stars Falling Flat

1. Ex-Wife of Cool’s Kim Sung Soo Murdered in a Bar Fight

Korea’s entertainment industry was in turmoil this past week after news outlets began to report Yuri, the female member of the popular 90s trio, Cool, had been murdered in a bar fight in the early hours of October 17.

The reports turned out to be false, however, it was revealed that another member of the party, the ex-wife of Cool’s Kim Sung Soo and the sister-in-law of actor Gong Hyung Jin, had been the one who had been stabbed to death.

The case shocked the public and close friends alike, while the stabber still remains on the run after fleeing the scene.

Despite Kim Sung Soo and his ex-wife having been divorced since 2010, Kim Sung Soo was listed as the chief mourner for the funeral procession and many pictures of a distraught Kim Sung Soo and
Yuri at the funeral have been published, reflecting the great sorrow and
anguish the incident has brought.

2. Byul’s Father Passes Away One Month Before Her Wedding

Haha and Byul were both in full wedding preparation mode and set to take their wedding pictures on October 15 when tragedy struck with Byul’s father suddenly passing away after a decade of remaining in a comatose and vegetative state since suffering a medical accident in 2002.

Haha acted as solace for Byul and her grieving family with the entertainer acting as the chief mourner for the funeral procession and helping Byul pull through the difficult time.

Since then, the touching story of how the two lovers were able to hold a mini wedding ceremony before her father, just a day before he passed away, was revealed, showing the send-off of Byul’s father was not without some brighter notes.

The two stars shared they still plan to hold their wedding as scheduled on November 30.

3. Lee Philip Exits ‘Faith’ to Receive Eye Surgery After Suffering Accident

With only a mere four episodes left in the series, the production of SBS’ Faith suffered a blow this week after it was announced main cast member, Lee Philip, would prematurely depart from the show.

The producers revealed the actor had suffered an eye injury which was serious enough to warrant surgery.

Though the details of the nature of the accident and the extent of the injury were not revealed, the actor is said to be recovering at home while the show will have to carry on with its final days of recording without the actor.
