What did singer Lee Hyori talk about with anthropologist and primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall?

Lee flew to Seattle last month to interview Goodall for fashion magazine Singles, and, for one of the very few times in her life, the singer was asking all the questions.

The first book Lee read when she began taking an active interest in animal rescue was Goodall’s book, and the singer once revealed that, in her mind, Goodall was like a mentor to her.

According to the magazine, Lee opened up to Goodall about her thoughts and concerns about animal rescue. She also sought Goodall’s advice on how to address Korea’s stance on dog meat as well as foot-and-mouth disease.

Lee also shared how she was recently rebuked for wearing leather after speaking out against the fur trade to which Goodall responded, “No one changes overnight. It’s most important to do what you can right now.” She continued, “People rebuke me and ask me why I’m not vegan, but even I can’t live a vegan lifestyle.”

On the issue of abandoned animals, Goodall said, “Long-term education is necessary in order to fix this problem.” She added, “There especially need to be laws prohibiting people from taking wild animals in as household pets.”

“I was really nervous,” said Lee after the interview. “I need to answer questions more thoroughly when I do interviews from now on as well.” She continued, “I thought that all women had the desire to look good in front of people, but her saying ‘I think I am most beautiful in my natural state right now. I don’t shop’ and seeing her adamantly pursue one cause left a strong impression on me.

Lee’s interview with Goodall will be featured in the December issue of Singles.

Goodall is an anthropologist and primatologist most known for her work with chimpanzees and her name is often modified by the phrase ‘the mother of chimpanzees.’

Lee has been garnering a lot of attention recently for choosing to become a vegetarian as well as a voice for the animal rescue and anti-fur movements. She also revealed that would be purchasing a hybrid car in another interview.

The singer is an active volunteer at animal shelters and a participant in other social movements.
