Last week, the Wonder Girls threw its hat into the ring of girl groups galore, and now T-ara will draw its claws in the year’s battle of the girl groups with its first music program comeback on Mnet’s M Countdown tonight.

The girls will perform their newest single Cry Cry for the first time on the show, which will be broadcast live from the CJ E&M Center in Seoul on November 17.

Unlike the bouncy, one-note Roly Poly, Cry Cry, composed by Jo Young Soo and Kim Tae Hyun, is a mid-tempo track with a flamenco flair that better highlights the members’ vocals.

It appears the members are quite serious about kicking some girl group ass, trading in the pigtails and polka dots of their Roly Poly days for blunt bobs, leather jackets and combat boots. T-ara is so serious, in fact, it released a dramatic, 15-minute music video that plays out more like a short film, starring actor Cha Seung Won and a gun-toting Ji Yeon.

T-ara’s new Black Eyes album, which swept the music charts upon its release on November 11, was released earlier than planned on various music websites due to popular demand. It contains six tracks, including a ballad version and music video version of the official single.

Expectations are high for T-ara as it takes on Girls’ Generation, Secret and the Wonder Girls, and many are curious to see how the girls will bring the Cry Cry to life on stage. Meanwhile, former girl group member Seo In Young will also be making her comeback on today’s show.
