Who Will Take Home a MAMA This Year?

The 2011 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), Asia’s representative, end-of-the-year award show, which will be held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on November 29, is creeping up on us, and many are curious to see which artists will take home an award this year.

Who Will Take Home a MAMA This Year?

The polls are currently open on the MAMA website for fans to vote for their favorite nominees in the respective categories, and, as of November 15, 3,890,000 votes have been cast, which is 10 times more than the number of votes cast last year.

Fans from all over the world have been making their votes count. According to a representative from MAMA, 11.2 percent of the votes have come from Thailand, 10.8 percent from China, 8.6 percent from Japan, 2.4 percent from Singapore as well as 48 percent from miscellaneous countries.

According to the polls, the nominees in the running for Song of the Year and Artist of the Year are coincidentally ranked in the same order from first to fifth place, with Super Junior leading the pack, followed by TVXQ, Girls’ Generation, Big Bang and Kim Hyun Joong. However, Super Junior is only beating TVXQ by two percent of the votes, garnering 31.1 percent and 31.9 percent of votes in the Song of the Year and Artist of the Year categories, respectively, indicating it’s anyone’s game.

TVXQ trails even closer behind Super Junior in the Best Male Group category, garnering 36.6 percent of votes to Super Junior’s 0.2 percent lead with 36.8 percent of fan votes.

Among the girl groups, 2NE1 is sweeping the votes in various categories, including Best Female Group, Best Dance Performance – Female Group and Best Vocal Performance – Group. In the Best Female Group category, 2NE1 is leading with 31 percent of votes, followed by Girls’ Generation, who has garnered 24.7 percent of votes. 2NE1 faces off against Girls’ Generation in the Best Dance Performance – Female Group category as well, where the group is beating Girls’ Generation with a narrow two percent lead, recording 29.3 percent of votes to Girl’s Generation’s 27.4 percent.

Who Will Take Home a MAMA This Year?

In the Best Vocal Performance Category, 2NE1 leads the pack with 24.9 percent of votes and duo Davichi follows with 27.7 percent of votes.

Fans are also voting in droves for the Rookie of the Year Award, Male and Female. The competition is stiff for nominees Huh Gak, B1A4 and Boyfriend. Huh leads with a five percent margin to B1A4, garnering 31.8 percent of votes.

A Pink is leading by a wide margin in the polls for Female Rookie of the Year with 38.6 percent of votes while Dal Shabet follows with 20.7 percent of votes.

Kim Hyun Joong leads the Best Male Singer category with 35.9 percent of votes, followed by Sung Si Kyung with 21 percent of votes. Meanwhile, IU is currently the front-runner to take home the Best Female Singer Award, garnering 43.9 percent of votes, while G.Na trails behind with 24 percent of votes.

Singer Hyun Ah is currently first in the Best Dance Performance category, while Tablo leads in the Best Rap Performance category, and FT Island, Baek Ji Young and Brown Eyed Girls are the fan favorites for the Best Band Performance, Best OST and Best Music Video categories, respectively.

With the polls remaining open for 10 more days and more than 80 percent of votes being cast by foreign fans this year, the results are subject to change at any moment.

As the theme of the 2011 MAMA, ‘Music Makes One,’ suggests, this year’s award show is expected to draw artists from all over Asia and fans from 19 different countries, including China, Japan, Singapore and the U.S., are expected to tune in to the show.
