[Interview] ‘K-Pop Star’ Baek A Yeon Learned a New Way to Sing from Park Jin Young
SBS K-Pop Star contestant Baek A Yeon said she had learned a new way to sing from Park Jin Young, her agency rep, for her upcoming album.
On September 10, Baek A Yeon attended an interview with enews before the release of her debut album I’m Baek.
She talked about how she had spent her time after signing her contract with JYP Entertainment and about how she felt to be the first K-Pop Star contestant to release an album.
She said she had received four months of hard training in JYP, and said, “[My teachers] emphasized the half-air, half-sound method, and also taught me a new way while I was recording my promotional single Sad Song (Trans. Title: Slow Song). It was a hit-and-run method.”
“If the lyrics say ‘My heart hurts’, I had to hit on ‘my’ and ‘hurts’ and let ‘heart’ run softly. It was very confusing at first,” she explained. “I immediately learned another way to overcome the problems I had though, so I could record my song more easily.”
Sad Song was composed and lyricized by the hit-maker Super Changddai, and co-lyricized and produced by Park Jin Young. It is to be a new type of ballad that incorporates strength and rhythm, and it plans to relate to its listeners with lyrics that speak of how anyone would feel toward a lost lover.
When she auditioned for K-Pop Star, Baek A Yeon gathered issues for being a contestant who overcame the malignant lymphoma she suffered from in elementary school to become a singer. She made it to the top 3 of K-Pop Star and ultimately to a contract with JYP Entertainment.
Baek A Yeon said that being the first meant a lot to her. “It’s a responsibility that feels good,” she said. “Since I’m the first K-Pop Star contestant to make a debut, I feel that I should start off successfully.”
She then added, “I worked hard every day to show I had become better compared to my auditioning days. Since the second season of K-Pop Star will soon be starting, I want to be a symbol of hope for those who dream the same dream I did.”
Five songs will be included in Baek A Yeon’s debut album, including the promotional single Sad Song, Always, the track written by and featuring 2PM member Junsu, I’m Leaving, Stay, a track that drew participation from Epitone Project and Love, Love, Love.
The singer will make her televised debut on September 16 through SBS’ Inkigayo.
